Sobre la meva biblioteca

My pride and joy is a signed first edition of Eugene Izzi's The Take. No, I will not elaborate.

I'm a fan of the heroic line of losers in American literature, from Melville to Algren and beyond. I believe this also includes Cormac McCarthy. Again, I will not elaborate.

Central European fiction in translation has been a big part of my reading recently -- most notably David Albahari, Olga Tokarczuk, Elias Canetti (as well as Vera Canetti), and Magda Szabo.

Also currently devouring anything I can find on the FWP, WPA, literature of the 1920s - 1940s (especially around Chicago), Great Depression literature, Jack Conroy and the circles surrounding The Anvil, The New Anvil, The New Masses, as well as the Partisan Review (and Anvil) and the New York Intellectuals as part of a thesis project. The project's primary focus is Nelson Algren's Never Come Morning. Other contemporaries of interest are Jessie Fauset, Mike Gold, Robert Cantwell, Agnes Smedley, Mary Vorse, Henry Roth, Richard Wright, Langston Hughes, and Nathaniel West, to name a few.

Sobre mi

Everything is going to be just fine - trust me!

Former X-Ray guy turned Grad Student and Aspiring (though very much licensed and certified!) High School English Teacher. Or maybe your Comp 101 guy...depends on who calls back first. I love books -- the stories in between the covers as well as those without. From the history of the actual technological object to the unique histories of the humans that marked up all the dead trees so that we could better hallucinate grand narratives of every rarified form -- more, please.
