Creative Book Reports: These creative, hands-on activities were developed to encourage students to be actively engaged as they respond to both fiction and nonfiction. And since students must be aware of the expectations at the onset of an activity, rubrics are provided for each activity. The rubrics are on a CD allowing each teacher to create the rubric with specific characteristics in mind for that activity.

Active Word Play: Teach vocabulary so that it "sticks" with these hands-on strategies. The active engagement promotes long-term retention of new vocabulary words.
Sobre mi
As a middle-school language arts teacher for 36 years, my innovative approach to language-arts instruction has earned me several awards including the Gladys Prior Award for Teaching Excellence in 2002 and the 2003 Teacher of the Year for Florida Council of Teachers of English. In 2006 I was awarded the Edwin A. Hoey Award by the National Council of Teachers of English and was the recipient of the 2008 NMSA, National Middle School Association, Distinguished Educator Award. I am a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Early Adolescent English/Language Arts. I earned a Master's in reading from the University of North Florida. My books, Creative Book Reports: Fun Projects with Rubrics for Fiction and Nonfiction and Active Word Play: Games and Activities that Build Vocabulary are published by Maupin House. I am also a contributing author for the 2010 Prentice Hall literature series. I love to share my hands-on teaching strategies as I present to teachers across the country.
