Quant a miI retired as the Manuscripts Cataloging Librarian at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pa. in 2015 I grew up buying and reading the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books and the monthly purchases at school from the My Weekly Reader and Scholastic Books paperback catalogs, in addition to devouring the public library's copies of Charles Dickens' books for fun. My first adult book purchases as a teenager, which I donated to a book sale, are paperback copies of Truman Capote's In Cold Blood, Shakespeare's Tragedies, and Shakespeare's Comedies.
Quant a
la meva bibliotecaMy library is eclectic. I review professional literature concerning cataloging and digitization, and collect fiction and non-fiction to read across a wide area of subject interests and authors. Topics range from Bruce Springsteen, rock and folk music, science fiction, cyberfiction, Civil War, African American history, Florida history, horse racing, to cats. My favorite authors include Stephen King, Walter Mosley, Patricia Cornwell, Ray Bradbury, Jasper Fforde, Laura Lippman, and Bill Bryson. Whenever I can, I get my books inscribed by the authors. I am more interested in reading the books than in collecting first editions. Since I moved to our retirement house in 2015, I weeded my collection and so far have donated about 1,400 books, keeping my favorite authors listed above plus my Civil War, music, Florida history, New Jersey history, Virginia history, cats, some of the horse racing books, and books I haven't yet read that I want to read. I bought a Kindle to download the fiction I like to read (like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum mysteries) but don't really need to own. I save the book shelves for the substantial books (like Bruce Springsteen).
