Quant a miUnionist; library technician (though I'm a bit sloppy in my own catalog, hurrying to just add the books); neighborhood/community/political activist. Not enough time to read, and have been trying to cut back in activities. But classes and workshop participation happen...Sometimes it's a choice between reading 'it' or doing 'it'.
Quant a
la meva bibliotecaI've added a new account for only sound recordings. I've been adding records from this account to Walkonmyearth2. Is there any way to do a mass/global move?
In the process, I've been weeding (well, not much); have been listening to some exciting, very early folk music. I have to examine it further, but it resembles some of the early Lomax recordings. Thrilling find!
It was a hot July day when I moved from one apartment to another in Saint Paul. Over a hundred boxes of books later, the young, sweat-soaked movers collected their money and said,"We really enjoyed working with you, but if you move again, please don't call us".
I vowed that I wouldn't adopt another book unless there was room on a shelf. That didn't last long - I simply put up more shelves. When I moved into my current apartment, the shelves went up in my living room. I decided a home didn't need a living room per se; I feel very comfortable in my library...so do my guests, whether it's a discussion group, book club, or friends over for the evening.
I came across this site in a library journal and have become addicted (compulsive?) to entering my books. I thought cataloging them would be a great way to weed duplicates or those unwanted from a 'past life'. I'm still playing with my tag classifications, some being rather broad at the moment, some quite definitive.
Cafes and bookstores - I work in a library and I enjoy the scents and textures of books. When I'm close to broke and can't stay away from a bookstore, I stand back and just look. I know that if I touch a book, open it, scan it, I'm starting a relationship with it...too close to purchasing it. Or, as my cat has chosen me, I let my eyes glaze over as I scan the sale books and the book that jumps out at me has a chance of coming home with me.
I've moved over 43 times in my life, yet amazingly enough, I still have some literature books from my high school days years and years ago....mostly Steinbeck, Faulkner, and the Russian authors.
