My Life

Married 20 years, divorced, now married nearly 18 more years. 5 kids, 3 stepkids, 3 foster kids, 16 grandkids, and 1 great-grandchild. Many of my ancestors were part of the Martin and Willy handcart Companies, and the Hodgetts Wagon Train who were traveling with them. My Grandpa Rowley was my greatest hero. I have a Greek/American wife who was stolen at birth. Her birth mother was a Greek born and raised in Cairo, and her adoptive mother was raised in Price, UT and didn't like Greeks. Her birth father was a life-long volunteer for the Red Cross blood drive, and died from Aids from a tainted transfusion. Her adoptive father was born in Denmark. Her brother-in-law is a Cherokee. Our daughter was treed by a rhino in Nepal. I have a Mexican ex-daughter-in-law and two black grandkids. Some of my closest friends are Tibetans, Indians, Nepalis and various types of weirdos. I've been to Mexico 5 times, India 4 times, Alaska twice, Tibet, Nepal, Germany, Greece, Austria, China, Canada, and driven the world's 5 highest roads,(up to 18,400 feet) through Ladakh and Tibet, and to Mount Everest Base Camp in Tibet. I've met at least 27 people who have been to Everest's summit, and at least 5 more who have attempted it. I've had a 15 minute conversation with the first American to climb K2, spent 2 hours with the son of the Sherpa who accompanied Hillary to the summit of Everest, (an Everest summiter himself) and had a 2 hour conversation with the only blind man to climb Everest. I've stayed in dirt floored road houses in Tibet, 5 star hotels in China, and twice at the Dalai Lama's guest house in Ladakh. I am still planning to go to South America, Fiji and Mongolia. When my wife and I retire, we want to spend most of our time in India and Mexico. I enjoy my wonderful family immensely. I enjoy music, computers, reading, writing and travel. (Not neccesarily in that order.) I love trying new ethnic foods. I've eaten amazing dishes in the finest restaraunt in New Delhi, and I've eaten Tsampa (from a bag made of a goat's scrotum) with nomads in Tibet. I've eaten "hundred-year-eggs" in China and drunk Chang (Tibetan beer) in the village of Bir, India. I've drunk rancid Yak-butter tea in three countries. My favorite foods are Indian and Thai. The three best foods I've ever eaten are: Baingan Bharta (an eggplant dish), Saag Paneer (a dish made from spinach and farmer cheese), and Lamb Khorma. I've eaten them in many places, but the very best of all three of them is at the Nepal Restaurant in Grand Junction, CO. Ask me about all of my "small world" experiences sometime.
