Your thoughts on Hetalia Axis Powers

I am considering getting this on DVD but I am still hesitating. Is it a good series or is it one of those overrated ones?

I've heard it either way. I tried treading the webcomic with English translations, but couldn't really make heads or tails of what was going on - even when I tried to remember that it was originally in 4koma (maybe even extended 4koma) form. Actually, I knew what history thing was being referred to, but what the characters were saying/doing... and I couldn't always tell them apart, even with clues like France has stubble and America has glasses (I think?).

So I tried it twice and decided not to bother. If the anime is anything like Azumanga Daioh or Hidamari Sketch, I'd give it a pass, because both of those are also gag comedy based on 4koma and didn't really work for me.

I personally love it.
It takes a certain sense of humor though, and it's definitely not for everyone.
I'm a little more fond of the manga, but I also like the anime a lot.

I know it's sort of a cop out kind of recommendation, but I'd say preview some of the episodes, then see how it works for you.
(and it's not rated MA for anything graphic or terribly offensive. Unless you're sensitive to stereotypes. In which case I would recommend you turn back now, and quickly.)

The dub uses some (hopefully intentionally) bad accents to up the humor quotient. Personally, I think a lot of the voices are hilarious, but that might not be your thing, so they also have some subbed videos too :3

I love Hetalia. I personally think it is hilarious and the accents just add to the humor of it. I also love that all the characters are fitted to the stereotype characteristics of people from that country.

Oh! If you do get the DVD, I'd suggest that you watch it before you read the book...it's much more easy to understand and the stories are pretty close to the episodes too.

I love this show!!! My friend got me into it. I would also recommend watching it before read it.
