So, the first volume is about to be published and I've asked for it for Christmas. Here's a link to a story from CBS Sunday morning about it. Anticipation? Thoughts? http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/10/17/sunday/main6966458.shtml?tag=cbsnewsTw...

Hi,

I'm listening to the audio edition, and I may not make it to disc 20. Twain's anecdotes are uneven, but generally lovely. When he tries to be very honest it turns ugly, but his hyperbole and his other characters are drawn as well as always.

I could certainly have done without the 12 minutes of acknowledgements and most of the 2 discs of introduction.

A whole slew of people made this their career object - 50 years in preparation. Much too much fuss.

It's been nine months since I got it and still haven't started reading. The heft is too intimidating.

Skip the commentary. Twain is best as his own spokesman.
