For those who loved Treasure Island, I just wanted to mention that other authors have gone on to write not only sequels, but also prequels.

Late last year, I was lucky to find out about Porto Bello Gold by Arthur D. Howden Smith which was published in 1924 and gives a colorful background history of Captain Flint, Long John Silver, Ben Gunn, and others we remember from Treasure Island.

In 2001, Dead Man's Chest: The Sequel to Treasure Island by Roger L. Johnson was published. Johnson picks up the threads of Treasure Island and even goes back and picks up characters from Smith's Porto Bello Gold then proceeds to tie them all together.

If read in order, they make for quite the trilogy.

Check them out!

Thanks! I had no idea that there was related material to Treasure Island (outside of four hundred movie versions). I know people have also written sequels & stuff for Peter Pan, but I've heard they're all either Disneyfied or political so I haven't read them.

I had no idea anyone had written prequels/sequels to Treasure Island much less that they were any good. I'm so glad you let us know!
I'll keep an eye out for them.

There was one called Jim Hawkins and the Curse from Treasure Island by Francis Bryan that was really good.

Cool! I'm usually not a fan of sequels or prequels, but I think I'll definitely check these out. Btw, thecynicalromantic, I've read one prequel to Peter Pan which I thought was really very good: Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry. Give it a look!

Peter and the Starcatchers is good, and it's a trilogy... Peter and the Shadowtheives is next, and then the last one (title not released).

I do love Treasure Island, and I'll look out for any sequels/prequels!

Has anybody read Silver : my own tale as written by me with a goodly amount of murder? It's supposed to be a retelling of the Long John Silver story, got good reviews on Publisher's Weekly.
