For lovers of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and Captain Hook, be sure and check out this series of books by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson.

Peter and the Starcatchers (September 2004)
Peter and the Shadow Thieves (July 2006)
Peter and the Secret of Rundoon (Not yet published)

These books are all prequels to the Peter Pan story we know and love. By the end of book one, you will find out where Peter came from, how he ended up on Mollusk Island, what Tinkerbell is, and how Peter came to be able to fly. Book two introduces us to a young George Darling (who will one day grow up to be the father of three precocious children). Book three is scheduled to end the trilogy and hopefully will appear soon.

Barry and Pearson have also written two books set in the same "world" but meant for younger children:

Escape from the Carnivale: A Never Land Book (September 2006)
Cave of the Dark Wind: A Never Land Book (August 2007)

Happy Reading

I'd heard there are a number of alternate Peter Pan series (I remember somebody dithering on about one called Peter Pan in Scarlet or somesuch, I think it's GLBT-related, I haven't read it...).

For some reason, and this sounds vaguely blasphemous even to me, I've been more interested in extracanonical Peter Pan movies than books. But this might just be that movies like Hook and Finding Neverland are so mind-bogglingly good.

I'll definitely check out these books, though. And perhaps I should read whatever book Finding Neverland is based on while I'm at it... >.>

I'm so glad to know another book is coming out in the Starcatchers series. The first two were great, I was hoping there'd be more. Any idea when it's due out?
