Would anyone like to have some kind of a 2011 Reading Challenge? Any suggestions or ideas for possible books to be read? I just thought I'd ask to see if anyone was interested in a possible Reading Challenge.

What kind of challenge were you thinking?

I've had my own personal "reading challenge" the past several years, targeting getting at least 72 non-fiction books read.

I've done OK with it:

          2010 - (70 so far)

          2009 - 74

          2008 - 78

          2007 - 79

          2006 - 73

{edit} ... oh, one or two "fiction" books did creep in there, but got added to the total, as long as the non-fiction portion was over 72!

I don't know. I think we need to agree if it's like the 25, 50, 75 or 100 Books Challenge. A lot of people are probably already signed up for other 2011 Reading Challenges. Maybe if it's like the 25 Book Challebge and anything over that is a bonus. Or maybe we just let people set their own individual Goals as to either how few or how many they feel they can read. I just wanted to ask and see if there's any kind of interest for a Readng Challenge here. As of right now I've still read 48 books for the year and should surpass 50 or more books read for the year. In order for me to read more books in 2011 than I did this year I'll need to read at a much faster pace. All year long I've been keeping track of the dates whenever I finish a book so I'll know if I'm way ahead or behind the pace I set for 2010. What does everyone else think?

I'd like the idea of 25-book increment challenge. As sad as it sounds, 25 nonfiction books would be good for me in a year (I'm a slow reader and have a very busy schedule). But I realize some folks can consume many more books.

Whatever you decide, a challenge of any kind is always good motivation to read more, right?

Are you suggesting a challenge to read Pagan books?

Yes. I thought it might be fun to have our own Book Challenge if we can get enough people interested to participate. We can discuss as to whether to make it a 25 or 50 Book Challenge or even something entirely different from the 25, 50, 75 & 100 Book Challenges in other LT groups. Or maybe we can just let people make up their own Book Challenges to read either as many or as
few books as they feel comfortable with since they might already be in several other 2011 Book Challenges.

OK, I decided to challenge myself to read 25 nonfiction books this year. Maybe that will help me catch up on all the books I've bought but haven't had time to read. :)

Hmm, I'm a bit lost. Phadrea said "Are you suggesting a challenge to read Pagan books?"

To which Beatles replied "Yes. I thought it might be fun to have our own Book Challenge if we can get enough people interested to participate."

I've got some Pagan books I've been putting in the back of my mind (that have been nagging me) that I would love to challenge. So count me in!

If you just mean books in general, that's fine too!

I only wonder, does one announce on these boards when a book is completed (to add one's opinion/personal experience with the book)? Or do you just tally it up by the end of the year?

I managed 37 books last year; this year I've set myself a goal of 40. I should like to exceed this though. On another website, it tallies them for you, so I shall use that as a counter.
