We have bantered back & forth about "let me know when your library book sale is and I'll drive over for it!" But who ever remembers who asked about it so we can tell them? Not me, that's for sure. So I thought maybe if we had a thread where we could post info about our libraries' book sales. I know I'd take a road trip for a great sale, and really, almost any place in MO is within a days drive and back, so maybe there are more of you out there who would be interested. So, here is a thread to post these things. And maybe a link to the website if there is one.

I will begin. The 2011 Friends of the Library Book Sale for the St. Charles City-County Library system has expanded to 4 days this year, and will be held Thursday, June 2 through Sunday, June 5 at the St. Charles Convention Center. Here is the website where more details will be posted as it gets closer:

I'm a total book fair junkie, I'll throw out a couple of my favorites :)

The Daniel Boone branch of the St. Louis County Library is having a book sale this weekend- it was open to friends of the library yesterday, but starting today it is open to the public. Sunday will be half price day.

According to the library: "Over 10,000 items for sale -- bestsellers, DVDs, CDs, books for adults, children and teens, and more! Most items priced between $.25 and $2.00."

Directions: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=300+Clarkson+Rd.,El...

The Greater St. Louis Book Fair (http://www.stlouisbookfair.org/) will be held April 28 - May 1 2011 at West County Shopping Center in Des Peres, MO. This is a big one with a great selection (it's held in half of the bottom floor of the mall parking garage outside of Macy's) but it tends to be really busy- there are often people with shopping carts congesting up the aisles.

In addition, the YMCA St. Louis Book Fair will be August 19 - August 24, 2011 at the Kennedy Recreation Center in St. Louis (http://www.ymcastlouis.org/carondelet-park-rec-complex/about-bookfair). This is well worth going to- a ton of stuff, laid out fairly well, and great prices.

Is there a way of entering these on Librarything Local? I wasn't quite sure they qualified as fair/festivals, but then it seemed silly to enter each date separately...

That's a good question. I've never quite mastered LibraryThing Local, so I'd appreciate the answer too. But thanks for the info about the Daniel Boone Library! I will try to get over there on Sunday! I knew about the Greater St. Louis one, but I've never been--it's always intimidated me just a bit. And I'll make a note about the YMCA in August. It sounds great! Thanks!

I love the Greater St. Louis book fair! It is like a booklovers paradise! Really cheap, huge selection, lots of parking - it is perfect.

But now I live about 1500 miles away. :-(

6> I'm afraid I gave bad information about the Daniel Boone sale :( Half price day was actually today, Saturday- and it only went until 3:00 (which I found out upon arriving there at 4:00, naturally...) SLCL Headquarters usually has a book sale though, as does Kirkwood Public Library- I'll try to put those in as I find out about them.

Greater St. Louis book fair is great- the parking can be a hassle, but if you're willing to park, say, a couple floors up from ground level I haven't really had problems.

Here in the KC area, the Johnson County Library sale is early in the months of June and November, held at Metcalf South shopping mall for the past few years.

In the spring, we have the North Kansas City Public Library sale. Last year it was in March; this year late in May.

They're both great. I was lucky this year to get Gourmet magazine's thousand-page cookbook, Allegra Goodman's The Cookbook Collector, Marlante's Matterhorn, among other gems.

Sorry to be late in reporting about this year's sale's - it did, however, leave more for me. Ha!

In case anyone is interested: The St. Charles City-County Library Book Fair is being held on August 3-5 this year! Here's a link to the info: http://www.stchlibraryfoundation.org/2012SummerBookFair

Even on the last day, I usually find 3-4 bags of books to buy. If anyone decides to attend, let me know & we can do lunch or dinner or whatever!
