Hey Boyz and girls,

I'm new to LibraryThing, new to the group, and just making my first entry.

I am interested in the study of early Christian origins. Mostly the first 250 years. Mostly I have studied the gospels and the historical jesus up till now. Now I am concentrating on the patristic period.

I am a retired computer industry guy, so of course, I am also trying to collect PDFs, text files, etc... whatever I can on info with regards to the above interest.

Just thought I would introduce myself, and let you know that there is a new kid on the block. I am happy to hear from people via email. Not sure if this system as a nice email alert setting, or even better the ability to respond back to messages via email that will update the talk or bbs system itself. Wouldn't that be great! I like email cause I know how it works. I write something address it and hit send, and it works. Being a computer person I am of course the laziest man on earth, so when I see that this blog has this kind of comment system, and that BBS works this way, and this blog allows urls embedded, and that blog requires me to HREF them... it just drives me crazy. I want to be thinking of my comment when I am posting it, not how I have to format it, etc...

Well, guess that's enough for now. Enough to let you know that I am a ramblin man.

Cheers! RichGriese.NET

Rich, you actually have to track the message thread; there is no e-mail connection. This thread, now that you have posted to it, will show up in Your Posts (see the upper left hand corner on the Talk tab) which will make it fairly easy to find.

I'm glad you're here. This group had become dormant. You might be able to breathe new life into it.

Robert

Dear Mr.Durick,

Ok, thanks, so no email notification. I see the YOUR POSTS link in the sidebar. Is there also a link for all the posts that I am commenting on, or is that what the TRACK feature is? Or... I see that I can STAR an item, and see the STARed area in the sidebar. So many options... it's gonna be fun. After perhaps one or two more posts on methodology... I will actually post something of CONTENT. ;)

Cheers! RichGriese.NET

BTW... what is the difference between a FRIEND and a CONTACT?

I started to answer that without checking on things first. 'Contact' is new to me, but in making you one of mine I see that it is unilateral; you might tell me whether it informed you of my making you a contact. It looks like it makes you an interesting library, which has been around for awhile, without the implications. You would be notified if I had selected interesting library.

Friend is a bilateral agreement. Had I clicked on that you would have received a message on your profile saying that I had asked you to be my friend. You would have had the choice to accept the offer or ignore it, and I would have had to live with your decision.

Your post will show every thread in which you post a message. The number count in the center column will show the number of unread posts in the thread, and you can click on that to jump to the message before the first of the unread.
