I sent a book to the UK via airmail and I've just got an email from the person I sent it to saying the envelope has arrived but the book has gone.

I wrap my books in brown paper and then send in NZ Post plastic parcel envelopes to keep them dry. Someone has to have opened the parcel, there is no way it or the elements could have worked itself open. grrrr.

This is the first time this has happened to me so I don't know what to do? I clicked the lost button and a message popped up saying it was too soon for it to be lost and I had to wait until November? Is this the only option?

Yes, I'm afraid so. If you know and trust the moocher and you feel bad about the situation you could charity them the points and ask they give them back once the book is declared "lost" (when they will get their points back). Otherwise, there isn't much you can do. Some postal services have a lost item search service but I've never heard of this actually working for a missing book.

I sent a book to Texas from Canada- it was never delivered and I complained to Canada Post. ( after 44 days-that is the rule here). Not only did I get an apology letter from Canada Post, but as well a cheque for the amount of postage and the cost of the book! That was a couple of months before the strike.

Let the UK moocher know that you or she can mark the book lost in November. You cannot do it sooner.

I don't know if you put an address inside the package, but if you did, there is a slight chance that the book may get to your moocher anyway... or get returned to you... but either way, you should mark it lost.

and remember that no matter how well we wrap, tape, pad, seal, waterproof our packages, they can be damage, they will open up, they will go lost.

I've received hard cover books that the postal system has tried to fold & twist!! I wanted to shout!!

For the most part, 99% of all packages are sorted by machines & those machines can damage books in ways we cannot imagine. Also, those machines have sharp edges & one of those edges could have cut the package open... and your book fallen out.

So, kiwiflowa, let her know that either of you can mark the book lost in November.... If you want to smooch her before that, you can. but you don't have to.

Good Luck.

If the book is marked lost, at least neither of you will be disadvantaged points-wise; you keep your points and the other member gets their points refunded.
The only issue is the 4 months wait to mark the book lost. :( ...

AND...that the book IS lost and the frustration that goes with that. AND...the fact that you know it is lost but must wait for a certain time frame when a book may still get delivered normally. *sigh*

I'm sorry and I feel your pain.

Thanks for your advice everyone. I was just checking to make sure there wasn't a really obvious button to click etc that I wasn't seeing.

I've kept the postage receipt and carbon copy of the declaration so I will be putting in a claims form.

A "lost book" has been found!
At the request of the sender: How do I change the status from lost to received?
" Sorry, no feedback found with that ID" is what I receive in "leave feedback".
This is a new one for me in all my experience in mooching!

>8 nancysnote: Once a book is lost it can't be marked unlost. I think you used to be able to still change a comment, but, if I recall, there was some sort of bug regarding changing feedback for lost books not working correctly. Someone else here will know better than I.

yep, can't change status can't change feedback.
