I'm trying to find the title and author of a book I read about 20 years ago. It was a western/frontier novel. It had a mostly orange cover, and was published by a company that started with a Z I think. It started out with a drunk in an old buffalo wallow, or some kind of hole, out in the west. He called his new 'town' Valley Forge. A town slowly sprouted up from where he was. The story also deals with buffalo hunting, and many other aspects of western life in the 1800's.
I'm mad at myself for not remembering the title or author...driving me crazy! :)
Can anyone help me here...Thanks ahead of time.

ah, that would be Heart of the Country by Greg Matthews, its opening words being: "In Kansas there is a town called Valley Forge. Its orgins are obscure. ..." By the way, I too have fond memories of this book and remember it as an excellent book. I also loved his The Wisdom of Stones, a beautiful story of settling the Australian Outback.
