Is Iran Trying to Build Nuclear Weapons?

Not according to the U.S. intelligence community. And this has been a rather consistent opinion held by the intelligence community since early in the Bush administration. Not only that, but even the Israeli intelligence community doesn't think Iran is actually trying to build a working bomb. The assessment is that, at most, what the Iranian regime is trying to do is to develop a break-out capacity where they would be able to build a fully working bomb within no more than 30 days. That by itself is worrying enough, but it does seem unlikely that Iran at this point is willing to go the whole nine yards and build a nuclear arsenal, no matter how small.

Then again, many in the U.S. intelligence community were of the opinion that Iraq had a nuclear weapons program in the early 2000s, so...
