I was wondering when Egypt's new legislature would get around to this.
Although, the reason they took this step probably has more to do with domestic than international politics. By calling for severing ties with Israel, the legislature puts pressure on the military to do so, which is a very popular position to take in Egypt. In all likelihood the military will not do so (it probably won't even acknowledge the legislature's resolution). The legislature will then point this out to the people, which will only further reduce the military's standing with the people vis-a-vis the legislature.
