Coincidentally, I noticed this topic today, just after receiving the note below, which might be of interest to some in this group:

The Socialist Education Project (SEP) of the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism is pleased to announce a forthcoming educational tour of Vietnam to be hosted by the Vietnamese Women's Union. The tour will take place from December 29, 2008 to January 12, 2009.

The primary purpose of the tour is to meet with a range of organizations and individuals in Vietnam to better understand that country's approach to building socialism, to learn more about the impact of Agent Orange on Vietnamese society, and to visit some the country's most significant tourist sites.

A subcommittee of the SEP is currently working with the Women's Union to finalize costs and itinerary. At this point we are projecting a total cost, including airfare from San Francisco and back, at around $3,000 dollars per participant. Of course, with the current volatility in the air travel industry, the final costs could be somewhat higher.

We expect that there will be a lot of interest in this tour, we are looking to diversify the pool of participants, and space is limited, so there are no guarantees that applicants will be selected to participate. One criterium we will be considering is folks' willingness to be involved, along with the CCDS, in Vietnam solidarity work after the tour is over. We must receive applications before October 1, 2008, but the earlier folks apply the better.

An email address has been set up for CCDS members and friends to request an application and more information on the tour. The address is: vietnamtour (at) cc-ds (dot) org. We look forward to hearing from you and sharing information as it becomes available.
