John Edwards, Spiro Agnew, and their kin
Might give a double sense to speak of "vice."
I'll give no rhymes away; so let's begin!

"Some say the world will end in fire,
and some: in ( 4-5).
From what Iʻve tasted of desire,
I hold with those who favor fire
And yet Iʻve known enough of hate
to say that (4-5) is also great
And would __ __ __ __ __ __ __."

__ __ __ __ __ __ __s, to get it right.)

"__ __ __ __", in French, rhymes not with "vice" but
with "fleece" and is a place name. What
Else can I say of it? Well, some wish list
Items might be called "__ __ __ __ to have" but
Hardly something youʻd avidly search for: Tut!
Youʻve got to consider the question of finances
Whether buying histories, epics or romances.

Franz Werfel was called by
Bertolt Brecht: "the Great Alea"*
( A colleague, not exactly a pal). Hey, a
Younger writerʻs likely to envy an older one;
So with the Latin for __ __ __ __ʻs singular he had fun.
(A pair of them would be "aleAE" in the old Roman tongue,
Whie Werfelʻs name meant a "cast"
or a "throw"); so the unsung
Writer called the sung one "the Great
Alea" (Staying unsung was not his fate.)

Mr. William Guppy might just make a Dickensian slip when, obsessed and exhausted by the long-running case in the history of the Chancery Court, he tries to explain the medical condition which causes one's skin to become yellow.

34 - We've barely stepped inside the lowest sphere
When angels sing: we've reached our journey's end
And Crambo's word, for paradise is here.

This round was based on Dante's Divine Comedy, as hinted by the use of terza rima. Each tercet corresponded, in order, to one of the thirty main divisions of the poem, ten each for Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. Our journey, like Dante's, therefore begins with "vice" and ends at "paradise."

Congratulations, poorima, and over to you. Having done a back-to-back, I'm going to sit out for the next round or two.

Inferno:
1. Introduction
2. First Circle (Limbo - virtuous non-Christians): Mahatma Gandhi
3. Second Circle (lust): Mark Sanford, Tiger Woods
4. Third Circle (gluttony): Joey Chestnut, Takeru Kobayashi
5. Fourth Circle (avarice): Ivan Boesky, Leona Helmsley
6. Fifth Circle (wrath): Charlie Sheen, Sean Penn
7. Sixth Circle (heresy): Jim Jones, David Koresh
8. Seventh Circle (violence): Anders Breivik, Seung-Hui Cho
9. Eighth Circle (fraud): Kenneth Lay, Bernie Madoff
10. Ninth Circle (treachery): Kim Philby, Robert Hanssen

Purgatory:
1. Ante-Purgatory I (the excommunicated): Juan Peron, Eamon de Valera
2. Ante-Purgatory II (late repenters): Christian Spurling, Charles Colson
3. First Terrace (pride): Richard Nixon, Conrad Black
4. Second Terrace (envy): Walter Winchell, Hedda Hopper
5. Third Terrace (wrath): John McEnroe, Zinedine Zidane
6. Fourth Terrace (sloth): Kato Kaelin, Paris Hilton
7. Fifth Terrace (avarice): Donald Trump, Rupert Murdoch
8. Sixth Terrace (gluttony): Marlon Brando, Elvis Presley
9. Seventh Terrace (lust): Heidi Fleiss, Larry Flynt
10. Garden of Eden: no souls

Paradise:
1. First Sphere (moon): end of game
