May 4th literature, anyone?

Are there any fans of May 4th Chinese lit out there?

I am a fan of Lu Xun, Yu Dafu and Ba Jin, among others.

Does anyone know of an English translation of Ba Jin's Autumn and Spring? I haven't seen one anywhere, but the Chinese versions are still too difficult for me, and I would love to read more about the characters from Family.

Ooooo... Panda Book issued a translation under the title Autumn in Spring and Other Stories. Is that the same one? The only work of Ba Jin's I'm really familiar with is Family. I also really enjoy the work of Ding Ling.

Nope, unfortunately, they're not the same thing. I have Autumn in Spring. Autumn and Spring are continuations of the story lines of Family, which I really like, and still think has relevance to modern China. Autumn in Spring is a short story, although it is on a similar topic - families interfering in their children's love life and the consequences for the children.

Darn. I've only read Family, so I wasn't sure... I'm excited to see that there's more about the characters, but my Chinese is rusty enough I don't think I could handle it in the orginal...

That's also my problem. I'm in China at the moment, and just got a copy of both Spring and Autumn in the one volume (less than Au$5), but it's too advanced and will probably sit on my bookshelf waiting to be glanced at when I feel daring and then returned to the shelf when I get disillusioned again.

BTW, I liked what I read of Ding Ling, Miss Sophie's Diary. It was a very interesting view of the way things worked in that period.
