Someone on a BC forum asked me why I would want or even need a BCID number as part of my book identification process on LT.

Do you like this feature here at LT? If so, why and of what use is it to you personally?

I want to correct a common misperception. You enter all your BCID, but other users don't get to see the private part.

I never even thought about that, Tim, but it's good to know!

LT has tags and searching my library on LT is much faster than doing a BC search. I use LT all the time to find a particular book then hit the BCID link to access its BC page.

Ditto what freelunch said, I also like to have BCIDs recorded somewhere iother than bookcrossing (for fast reference) - used to keep track of all my books in excel, now so much easier to have everything including wishlists and BC reads in one place.

I like having the ID# here as well; I find LT slightly easier to navigate than BC when I've needed the number later.

Call me stupid, but I've just joined BC and added my first BC book to my library (that's not why I'm stupid though! :) but now I can't find the BCID anywhere except the textbox on the edit page?

I've seen references to a BCID link that would take one to my BC journal entry of the book. Where does this link appear?

I can't see it on list view, cover view, book information or social information. (And could I see it on others' BC books?)

It's like a toy that I can't find the last squeaky button on. Please put me out of my misery? :D

I don't know of any link of a BookCrossing book here on LibraryThing to the book's profile on BookCrossing.

However, you can put a link on your LibraryThing profile to your BookCrossing profile.

Does someone else know something I don't know (about message #7) ?

If you include the BCID as one of the fields to include in your My Library view here, the number will appear as a link to the corresponding Bookcrossing number. In other words, if you enter your copy of "Sex! Sex! Sex! Yes! Yes! Yes!" with BCID# xxx-xxxxxxx here, you can click on the blue link xxx-xxxxxxx from your library view, and it'll jump straight to Bookcrossing# xxx-xxxxxxx without having to log into Bookcrossing first.

Kwill: you need to edit your "Display style" @ My Library view to include the BCID field for that to work.

Thanks so much, Seajack! I didn't know I could do that. That is so great!

By the way, I have a new BookCrossing bookray for which I'm seeking more participants. Anyone here want to join a bookray for The Muse Asylum by David Czuchlewski? It's such a good book, but I got very few takers from the BC forum. :-(

If you're interested, simply send me a Private Message via BookCrossing with your mailing preferences. Thanks!

Link to my book's profile.

I can't find any information on "Sex! Sex! Sex! Yes! Yes! Yes!" on LT or - do you have a working link? :op

Once your number of BC books starts to build up, it can be rather difficult and time consuming to find a specific book on your shelf, if you don't have the BCID right in front of you (especially if you've released more than one copy of the same book). Having the link on my LibraryThing allows me to easily search the book and click the BC link to take me right to the correct page.

I just joined today; I don't know anything! I have added BCID as one of the fields in My Library. Where do I put the actual BCID? Comments? Tags? Where - I have looked everywhere I can think of.

Thank you

ETA: I found it! I've done it! Yay, I'm linked!

Hi Nancy!

Welcome to LibraryThing.

This is what you do (and it sounds more complicated than it really is!):

1. Click on the tab "Your books".
2. Under the tab row click on the picture of the cog (Edit view styles).
3. Select "BookCrossing ID", select "comments", and select "tags". We're just working on "Style A" for now.
4. Click on "save changes".

1. Click on a book title.
2. In the left hand column, click on "edit your book'.
3. Scroll down and enter your data for "BCID", "comments", and "tags".
4. Scroll up or down and click on the green circle that says "save".

1. Click on the "your books" tab.
2. Scroll down until you see your saved BCID, comments, and tabs.
3. If done correctly, clicking on the BCID will take you directly to the BookCrossing journal entry page on for that individual book. It's very cool! I love that about LibraryThing since I'm such an active user of both websites.

Hey! You beat me to it, but maybe my directions will help someone else. :)

After "edit your book" you may have to click on a drop down menu labeled 'show extra fields' to get the field for the BCID.

Thank you, SqueakyChu and pinkozcat. I may need those reminders again if I forget what I did!
