My own laptop is also into its 6th year. I have absolutely no intention of replacing it. Should software demands outstrip capacity of it, then so be it: I will browse the internet in text only mode! (Which actually isn't a bad thing as its quite difficult to moronically surf text - you actually have to engage with the material)

Oh, and just to add, my last car I bought new and kept for 14 years. I intend the same for the replacements which are now into their 6th year.

I work with old money i.e. inches feet miles gallons furlongs pounds stones ounces and yards. My 14 year old Renault 19 1.9 diesel did around 300,000 miles.

Talking about needs. Google for the red dot story from the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

All in around a million for the most stupid idea for a long time.

And as they spend tax payers money, they promote business and allow public schools to fall apart.
