I hope it's OK for me to start the new thread; I noticed that no one had yet. It's always enjoyable to see what everyone is currently reading.
2rabbitprincess
Thanks for starting the thread!
Today I began reading Richard II, as I want to have the play read before seeing David Tennant in the Royal Shakespeare Company production later this month.

I'm reading Blackout for the Reading through Time WWII read, and about to start Tomorrow There will be Apricots, today's Kindle daily deal.
5christina_reads
I'm reading They Found Him Dead by Georgette Heyer.
6lkernagh
I only ever seem to remember to post here when a new monthly thread has been created. Thanks for starting the November thread, Miela!
I am continuing my page-turning reading of Larsson's Millennium Trilogy and currently 100 pages into The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. For my purse read, I have Steampunk Voyages by Irene Radford for the Steampunk November group read and I am about the dive back into my much neglected Commonwealth Challenge with Mr. Potter by Antiguan author Jamaica Kincaid.

I am dividing my reading time between Among Others by Jo Walton for the November AwardCat and Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein for the Reading Through Time November Theme of WW II and the November RandomCat. Both books are shaping up to be very good reads.
8LittleTaiko
Flying through Don't Quit Your Day Job. Wonderful stories regarding authors and their pre-writing days. Discovering many authors that I'm dying to read some of their works now. Bad/good for the wishlist!
9cbl_tn
I'm reading Marie Curie and Her Daughters (my September ER book) and Can You Forgive Her? for the group read, and I'm listening to Riders of the Purple Sage (also for a group read).
10christina_reads
I've just started The Last Enchantment by Mary Stewart.
11VictoriaPL
I am still bushwacking my way through The Winds of War by Herman Wouk at home and also reading The Book of Air and Shadows by Michael Gruber during lunches.
12mamzel
I finished Silence of the Grave and loved it. I have Jar City around somewhere and will definitely read it. I am now in the LT Read, The Circle and finishing up The Outliers.
13lsh63
Well it's not exactly challenge related, but I started Through The Evil Days. I had forgotten about it since I pre-ordered it a while ago and found it on my Nook this morning ready to download.
#11 Victoria, I want to get to The Winds of War one day, I think I also have the sequel to it, War and Remembrance.
#12 Mamzel, I do enjoy that series, I have to check and see which book is next for me. I think it may be Voices.

I'm reading God Save the Queen - steampunk - and Can You Forgive Her.
15BookLizard
14> I have God Save the Queen waiting for me at the library . . . I wonder if I heard about it from YOU!
I'm currently reading 4 books, which isn't as confusing as you might suspect. In paperback, I'm re-reading Dark Magic by Christine Feehan. It reminds me why people either love this series or hate it - you really have to love alpha males to enjoy these books. On my Kindle, I'm reading Waiting to Be Heard by Amanda Knox - who is back in the news. My Kindle battery was low and I had to recharge it last night, so I'm also reading an ER of Operation Bunny by Sally Gardner. Trying to decide why I don't really like it even though it has a talking cat. LOL. Finally, I'm listening to Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder on audiobook in the car. Nothing like descriptions of beautiful scenery, simpler times, and historical racism to make the commute go faster.
I also broke down and bought a tablet on Amazon last night. They were offering 15% off certain Kindles for one day only, so I ordered a Kindle Fire HDX. I plan to use it mostly for streaming video and apps and stuff. I'll keep my good old Kindle Paperwhite for reading. Signed up for Amazon Prime too, so I can borrow a free book a month from a select list. The only one I saw that I knew I wanted to read was Trial by Fury: Internet Savagery and the Amanda Knox Case by Douglas Preston, so I borrowed it. Preston is the one who got me interested in the Amanda Knox case because of his book The Monster of Florence.

#13 Hey Lisa! War and Remembrance is actually the book I want to read but I wouldn't let myself until I had read the first one. It reminds me a little of Ian Fleming's style, you know that style? He has a way of describing things every once in a while that catches me off guard. It's a slow burn kind of novel. I'm not loving it, but I'm still up for the ride.
17thornton37814
I just finished Winter Chill by Joanne Fluke. Now I'm reading an ER win, Katie Gale by Llyn De Danaan.
18March-Hare
I still have a several books from the last two months that I'm reading, but I'm adding The Struggle for Power in Early Modern Europe to the pile.
19lsh63
I quickly devoured Through The Evil Days. It was excellent and I hope I don't have to wait that long for the next book. The ending had me almost biting my nails, I need to know what's going to happen next!
20japaul22
Just finished Transatlantic. Continuing on with Germinal which I'm loving and about to start Harvest by Jim Crace.
21clfisha
I have given up on Cyber Circus by Kim Larkin-Smith for a future time when I maybe in the mood and am reading the currently astounding Sunburnt Faces by Shimon Adaf
23Miela
>20 japaul22: I'll be looking forward to your thoughts on Germinal, as it's on my Kindle.
24dudes22
Somehow I missed this thread until this morning. I've gotten 5 done so far this month - A Violet March by Evan Katy, Stalking the Angel by Robert Crais, Never Change by Elizabeth Berg, A Single Thread by Marie Bostwick, and Whatever You Do, Don't Run by Peter Alluson.
25psutto
have just finished the art of forgetting: rider and started the lives of Tao both of which were freebies in competitions I won earlier this year...
26DeltaQueen50
I am currently reading The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold, and have started Good Graces by Lesley Kagen. I am loving the fantasy, Bujold builds a lovely world and peoples it with a great assortment of characters. Lesley Kagen is a personal favorite author and this is a sequel to Whistling in the Dark.
27dudes22
And I finished another A Thousand Tomorrows by Karen Kingsbury
28hailelib
Just finished The World of Myth by David Leeming and I'm continuing with Riders of the Purple Sage and The Circle.
29RidgewayGirl
I've finished Paris Was Ours by Penelope Rowlands and am now reading Kittyhawk Down by Gary Disher. I'm also still reading In Europe by Geert Mak, but I am in the final stretch.
30mamzel
I started The Circle but I wasn't thrilled by it or by the comments on the group read site. I set it aside and may or may not get back to it. In the meantime I sailed through Rough Passage to London (pun intended) and picked up another historical fiction, Medicus. I forgot I had read it already but was enjoying it so much I continued with it. At work I laughed my way through Ship Out of Luck, a YA book.
31christina_reads
I'm starting Gail Carriger's Curtsies & Conspiracies, which will fit into steampunk month nicely!
32VictoriaPL
Finally got my hands on a copy of Through the Evil Days.... Yes!
33thornton37814
VictoriaPL> That one just arrived at our library today. One of my colleagues snatched it up for her "husband" to read. Of course, she'll read it too, but that was her excuse!
34cbl_tn
I'm reading The Yiddish Policemen's Union and continuing with Can You Forgive Her? and the audio of Riders of the Purple Sage.
35.Monkey.
>34 cbl_tn: Yiddish Policemen's Union is one of my favorites!
36dudes22
I've finished A Body in the Belfry by Katherine Hall Page and have started Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind by Ann B Ross which I am quite enjoying.
>34 cbl_tn:/35 - I had YPU scheduled for one of the award CATS this year but ran out of time and decided to push it further down the road into another year...maybe next year/maybe not.

37.Monkey.
>36 dudes22: Have you read any others of Chabon's?
38VictoriaPL
33/ Lori - I love this series. It was a all-in-one-sitting kind of read. I thought it was a good progression. But now I'm waiting for the 'next' one again! :/
39lsh63
Hi Victoria! Have you finished Through The Evil Days already? If so, I will stop by to discuss :)
40cbl_tn
So far I don't like YPL as well as either Gentlemen of the Road or The Final Solution. The Yiddish terms are making it harder work for me.
>36 dudes22: I love the Miss Julia books! I'm glad you're enjoying getting to know her.
>36 dudes22: I love the Miss Julia books! I'm glad you're enjoying getting to know her.
41.Monkey.
>40 cbl_tn: Well Gentlemen was very different from his "usual style" to that point. I haven't read Final Solution, my library doesn't have it :( but I've read all his earlier work (Mysteries of Pittsburgh, Wonder Boys, Werewolves in Their Youth, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay) and really enjoy the way he writes.
42thornton37814
I'm reading Not a Creature was Stirring, but my ER of Bosnia's Million Bones just arrived so I'm anxious to dig in since I find DNA and forensic genealogy so interesting. The question is whether I can make myself finish the Christmas mystery before I dig in!
43RidgewayGirl
>41 .Monkey.: I do love Michael Chabon's books, but I haven't read The Mysteries of Pittsburgh specifically because I was warned of bad things happening to a dog in a basement. Have you read Manhood for Amateurs?
I'm reading From the Jaws of Death by Brogan Steele, finishing up In Europe by Geert Mak, really liking the second Challis mystery by Gary Disher, Kittyhawk Down and I just started Standing in Another Man's Grave by Ian Rankin. I may be the only person on earth disappointed that Rankin has resurrected Rebus. I was really enjoying getting to know Fox.

39- Stop on by Lisa! We definitely have to talk about the ending!!!
45rabbitprincess
Today I plan to settle down with tea and a blanket and see how much closer to finishing Lionheart I can get. It's good, but I keep not making time for it.
46DeltaQueen50
Oh, tea and a blanket sound good! In my case I will be reading Lord Grizzly and Anne of Windy Poplars.
47.Monkey.
>43 RidgewayGirl: You know, I saw it at the annual book festival thing (it's pretty much a huge overstock sale, from what I can tell), but I wasn't sure about it. It just didn't strike me as something quite "up my alley."
48LittleTaiko
Having a nice few hours reading Alias Grace.
49dudes22
PolymathicMonkey - no I haven't read any of Chabon's books yet although I have 2 in my TBR pile - YPU and Gentlemen of the Road both of which I think I picked up because of recommendations here on LT. I'll get to them someday.
50VictoriaPL
Starting on Raymond Chandler's The Little Sister.
51christina_reads
I'm reading Dreamers of the Day by Mary Doria Russell.
52AHS-Wolfy
Thought I'd treat myself by saving a Glen Duncan book for the last one of my challenge. I've made a very brief start on Weathercock. Until he publishes the last of his werewolf trilogy then this will be the last one of his I've still not read.
53mamzel
I decided to go back to The Circle and finished it off Sunday morning. I also read the first two graphic novels featuring Capt. Pickard and Dr. Who, Assimilation². Since only the first two were available through my public library system, I broke down and ordered a single book with all the volumes. I couldn't leave them facing the Cybermen AND the Borg! I also started Fire From Heaven by Mary Renault, a historical novel about Alexander the Great.
54Helenliz
I've finished The Light Between Oceans on audiobook this morning. I'm now onto The Little Stranger for this month's RL book club read
55hailelib
Just finished an impulse read, The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection.
56mamzel
>55 hailelib: I'm 19th in the queue for this book at my library. *le sigh*
58dudes22
Just finished Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind by Ann B Ross and completes another category for me.
59rabbitprincess
Today I am beginning celebrations of the Dr Who 50th anniversary with Doctor Who and the Dinosaur Invasion, which is really about what you would expect based on the title.
60DeltaQueen50
Finished the less than steller Riders of the Purple Sage and now I am concentrating on Escape From Berlin and The Winthrop Woman.
61christina_reads
I've just started An Excellent Mystery by Ellis Peters...time to curl up with some Cadfael!
62dudes22
I've finished Gunpowder Green by Laura Childs and am starting Smokin' Seventeen by Janet Evanovich.
63christina_reads
Now I'm reading The Wanderers by Cheryl Mahoney -- the first time I'm using my Nook to read a book! It's going well so far. :)
64dudes22
Finished Smokin Seventeen and am starting Body Double by Tess Gerritsen.
65BookLizard
63> Yay for the Nook! I never thought I'd like ebooks, but I'm a convert.
66LittleTaiko
Almost finished with First Family: Abigail and John Adams by Joseph J. Ellis. They were such an amazing couple.
67christina_reads
@ 65 -- I think I'm a convert as well! I still prefer physical books, but now I know that I can also enjoy e-books!
I'm now reading An Old Betrayal by Charles Finch.
I'm now reading An Old Betrayal by Charles Finch.
68hailelib
Just finished Water Witch, an ebook that I don't really recommend.
69mamzel
Gave up on Fire From Heaven and started another book on my Kindle, The Palace Job, but alas, that one did not capture me either. Looked over at my shelf and decided to tackle the imposing An Instance at the Fingerpost of which I have heard good things here. I think the reason I resisted this book is its size but since I am on vacation this week and can dedicate a lot of time to it I decided to give it a shot. LTers did not let me down.
70cbl_tn
>69 mamzel: I loved Am Instance of the Fingerpost when I read it several years ago! Hope you enjoy it!
I'm currently reading The Penderwicks and Mrs. Miniver, and I'm almost finished with chunkster Can You Forgive Her? for the group read. I'm still working on the audio of Riders of the Purple Sage.

I've finished Body Double by Tess Gerritsen and am starting Timepiece by Richard Paul Evans.
>mamzel - I have An Instance of the Fingerpost on my TBR pile too. It's size does make it daunting every time I come across it. But I have heard lots of good things about it too.

72DeltaQueen50
I am also reading Mrs. Miniver and today I started Wish Upon A Star as my first holiday book.
73LittleTaiko
Loving the latest Julia Spencer-Fleming book - Through the Evil Days so far.
74RidgewayGirl
An Instance of the Fingerpost seems big at first, but it's such a gripping read that I, at least, would have been happy with a longer book.
75majkia
#74 by RidgewayGirl> I've long been wanting to read An Instance of the Fingerpost and have it on my TBR.
I'm giggling about everyone saying how the size is so daunting. One of the MANY positives about reading ebooks, is one never knows! I select a book to read and don't know how long it is until I open it up.
Maybe we should do a group read.

>73 LittleTaiko: LittleTaiko, I finished Through the Evil Days recently. Can't wait to hear your thoughts!
I'm currently reading To Speak for the Dead by Paul Levine. Loving it so far!

77LittleTaiko
>76 VictoriaPL: Victoria - Overall I really liked it. Always good to be back with Clare and Russ. Not sure how I felt about the very end, but it definitely leaves some possible story lines open for some of the side characters.
78VictoriaPL
>77 LittleTaiko: I know what you mean. I was not happy with the ending either. Anything to keep us coming back for the next one, eh?
79cbl_tn
I'm reading Mrs. Miniver and House of Stone. I finally finished Can You Forgive Her? (yay!) but I'm still working on the audio of Riders of the Purple Sage.
80hailelib
I finished The Path Between the Seas and had a laugh when Riders of the Purple Sage was mentioned as one of the popular books for the Americans working in the Canal Zone the year it was published.
81christina_reads
I'm reading The Case of the Gilded Fly by Edmund Crispin.
82dudes22
I finished Timepiece by Richard Paul Evans and started Wishin' and Hopin' by Wally Lamb
83cbl_tn
I'm trying to finish up three or four books before the end of the month. I'm partway through all of them and I think at least three is reasonable since it's a holiday weekend.
One of my current rads, King Solomon's Mines has some similarities to A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. I think King Solomon's Mines was published first, so it looks like Twain could have been influenced by Haggard's book.

84DeltaQueen50
I am reading The Song Is You by Megan Abbott, I really enjoyed her Queenpin and I am liking this one as much if not more.
85VictoriaPL
I blazed though Silent Enemy by Thomas W. Young last night and started Bombshell by Catherine Coulter.
