Hi everyone! I'm back for another round. Last year, I experimented with doing a pyramid style challenge (with one book in a stretch category and fourteen in my favorite) and I liked it, but I think I'm going for something more flexible this year -- trying to hit at least four books in each category and letting myself go over that limit in the categories I like best. I've also decided to drop the YA and Children's categories and just integrate them into all my other categories. I read so many of those books for work (and fun) that they always end up spilling over into Sci Fi, and Mysteries, and LGBTQ, etc., etc.

Just for fun, I've themed my categories around songs I like from the 1980s, but they're pretty broad categories!

I. TOM SAWYER - Novels from before WWII
II. BACK IN TIME - Historical fiction
III. ALL AROUND THE WORLD (THE MYTH OF FINGERPRINTS) - Books by authors from outside the U.S. and U.K.
IV. A NEW ENGLAND - Books set in and around Boston
V. IT'S A KIND OF MAGIC - Fantasy
VI. SHE BLINDED ME WITH SCIENCE - Science fiction
VII. (SHE WAS A) HOTEL DETECTIVE - Mysteries and suspense novels
VIII. TAKE ON ME - Graphic novels
IX. JOHNNY ARE YOU QUEER? - LGBTQ fiction and non-fiction
X. SISTERS ARE DOING IT FOR THEMSELVES - Books about women and gender
XI. LULLABY OF BROADWAY - Plays and books about theatre
XII. BETTE DAVIS EYES - Books about film and TV
XIII. HITSVILLE U.K. - Highly circulated books in my department at the library
XIV. NO MYTH - Other non-fiction
XV. BABY PLAYS AROUND - Other fiction

I really like your Hitsville category. I've never thought of doing a category like that. Hmmm! I just sent the Lore book to another library so it's one that would be on my list. The Maze Runner series is very popular here at the moment but I've read all those already.

I've never done a category like it before either, but I thought, "Hey, I'm always trying to read more deeply in my collection. Maybe I should try reading the stuff that's most checked out by my students!" (I've already read a lot of it, like The Fault in Our Stars and The Hunger Games, but there's a lot that isn't my usual thing and that I feel I should know more about if I'm supposed to be the YA expert.)

Welcome back! I love song themes... I always like to see how many songs I recognize. Seven is not a shabby number. ;-) I love that you have created a category for books your students check out!

I am still woefully behind on my reading for the year, but I'm getting closer than usual to hitting my goals for this challenge. Over in my 75 Book Challenge thread, I still have 11 to go (NOT typical, ugggggggh grad school), which if I power through means I could hit all my goals here and still hvae one book left over so that I can finish reading the Protector of the Small series. Let's see how I do with 20 days left in the year!

And now I've done it! This is the first year I've actually managed to complete the category goal I set for myself (though as I only did 4 books per category, it was quite a bit less ambitious than some goals I've set in the past) and I did it right at the last moment.
