favorite area, favorite time period?

So, what's your favorite area or time period to read about? Why?

They're all favorites when I'm reading them. Last month is was WWII, before that the Great Depression, now it's 19th century France. I'm looking forward to "Woman in White," which believe is set in 19th century England. If not, wherever it is, I'll probably feel right at home.

I tend to favor medieval (Europe), Byzantine, Middle Eastern, and Asian histories. But all areas and periods can be very interesting to learn about, at least when they are written about in an interesting way. :)
