Welcome.... let the fun and games begin :)

oct. 13, 2015, 3:25am

Congrats on a new thread! :)

>1 lovelyluck: That saying is so me. :D I need to buy another house for my books.

>4 lovelyluck: That is the cutest little pom! :) I just don't think I could let my guy's hair grow that much. One trip outside and he'd bring in half the yard in his fur.

Anyway, from the last thread:

Bummer about Spelled being a library book. You never know; the binding could come loose from repeated drops down a flight of stairs. *ahem* I mean, by accident. ;) And then the book would have to be withdrawn and voila! You get the book cover. :) I can't believe I just said all that. I think my work environment is starting to rub off on me. I have coworkers--one in particular--who purposely damages books, because they're tired of shelving it, etc. No shit.

LOL! You're used to the reader's "annoying voice?" That would be one reason why I'd want to read the book instead of listen to the audiobook, but to each their own, right? :) Honestly, I think that's cool you still have a tape deck in your car. My sister had one in her van (aka her shaggin' wagon, mostly due to the shag carpet in it, not the other reason), but she had one of those cassettes that connects to a CD player, so she didn't have to scrounge for cassettes again. Nooks and all kinds of new technology are beyond me, mainly because I don't have the money to keep up with it. But I like your idea of downloading the audio so you can listen to it in your car. Cool idea. :)

Yeah, I don't know how to celebrate Columbus Day either, but apparently there are some pretty big parades here in the U.S. and elsewhere. Who knew. I'm near Seattle, WA, so it's mostly considered Native American/Indigenous People's Day and they kind of poo-poo Columbus as an oppressor, etc. Different parts of the States, different views of him, I guess. Anyway, I did have today (well, yesterday now) off, but then I agreed to sub Monday, because I always need the extra cash. At least I have Tuesday off. :)

Good luck reading everything by Abbi Glines! :) My mind was a little boggled by how many books she's written, and I don't think I've read one.

Happy new thread! I like the way you do your list up top with the ratings next to them. I dont know if you were doing it before but I like it. 😊

>10 saraslibrary: So far the series is okay... my co-worker recommended it - and she knows my tastes pretty well

It sucks for another mediocre book - I had checked out three by that author thinking sure new romance series - but I returned all three today - I just wasn't as interested in reading the next two since the first one didn't live up to my expectations :(

>11 Kassilem: Thanks, I have done that for a couple of years now.... it makes it easier when I'm trying to remember what I have read for the year - and it's pretty easy to keep up with :)

It's my anniversary - I have been shackled - I mean married LOL- to my husband now for 7 years and we've been together for 15 years.... this past June we celebrated 20 years of knowing each other - he has officially know me for 2/3 of my life... I love that man - gushy cheesy moment = he is my everything....

Happy Tuesday everyone :)

>13 Ape: Thanks! you visited :)

>14 MickyFine: Thanks! it has been a while since I've posted on your thread but I still stalk you (Maniacal Laugh bwahahahaha)

>15 saraslibrary: Yes - once I finish the three depressing stories I'm in the middle of and the one about infected kids and some ghost story I will totally get on finding a new romance series - just not Fifty Shades of Grey - I'm a rebel - I can't go with the masses on this :)

Happy Anniversary!!

Title: Unleashed
Author: Sophie Jordan
Date Finished: 10/26/2015
Genre: YA Fiction
Notes: sequel to Uninvited
Opinion: I liked it a little better than the first - I didn't like how quickly the main character began to not like the love interest in the first story and fell for a new love interest in the second - but the second had a little more action and story line than the first so that was a plus - at least the reader wasn't annoying - I don't think I would have continued the series had the reader been annoying in the first story...

>16 lovelyluck: Happy (belated) Anniversary! :) That's a long time to know someone. Impressive!

LOL @ Fifty Shades of Grey. I'm still stuck on the first book, but the movie wasn't half-bad. I don't blame you either way if you don't read the series. It's not like mandatory life-or-death reading.

>23 lovelyluck: No worries on the Sexy Sunday pics. It's hard to remember them all the time. But thanks for the husband pic! Does he know you posted him on the interwebs? :D

>24 lovelyluck: Omg, I can't tell if they photoshopped that look on the poor kitty's face, but: "I'll save you kitty prisoner!"

>26 lovelyluck: That is an absolutely gorgeous Halloween costume! :) I used to love eye masks, too, when I was a youngin'.

>27 lovelyluck: & >28 lovelyluck: *snort-chuckle* I totally recognize that kitty slap pose. And then in like 2 seconds, s/he'll do a straight-up-in-the-air back-flip and go zooming around the room like s/he's on fire. Aawww....cute, but I'm so glad I have old cats now. ;)

nov. 11, 2015, 9:32am

>30 saraslibrary: Thanks... I'm glad it's not mandatory because I would die.... My husband knows - he said why did you only post it on LT where the only people you know don't actually know you - are you ashamed to put me on facebook - so I also posted it on facebook - where my someone in my circle who has never met my husband was like "He's hot" - crazy husband... I'd like to think they didn't photoshop the kitty - only because that is a seriously funny face... thanks - she was supposed to be a flapper but then when I showed her the mask and told her she could wear her formal gown she was sold - totally beautiful!... high fives man....

Title: Hershey
Author: Michael D'Antonio
Date Finished: 11/08/2015
Genre: Biography
Opinion:I ate an obscene amount of chocolate while I read this book - it was a subliminal message from the deceased chocolate maker "EAT MORE CHOCOLATE WHILE YOU READ ABOUT CHOCOLATE" - anyway - I enjoyed the look on Milton S Hershey's life - how he failed several times prior to climbing to the top - how he created his own little utopia - I want even more to go on over to Hershey, PA now and see the town I have read about through more modern eyes - although it would be nice to see historic building and all - over all I am satisfied with this read - even if it did make me gain some chocolate weight :(

Oh, I need to add the Hershey book to my list - sounds really interesting! I'll likely fall into the same chocolate-eating trap, though: I'm a firm believer in the Gilmore Girls method of watching movies/reading books. Ex: watching Willy Wonka without loading up on insane amounts of chocolate and candy to have on hand for the viewing is criminal.

nov. 12, 2015, 12:16pm

Well, I haven't done stats in a while so I will do a year to date update and graphs on books read and pages read :) enjoy!

Books attempted - 121
Books read - 103
Pages - 29696
Paper - 105
Ebook - 3
Audio - 11
Fiction - 99
Non-Fiction - 20
Owned - 8
Checked out - 102

1 to 5 -23
5.5 to 8 -63
8.5 to 10 - 18

Since this is the first year I have attempted stats I think I'm a little off some places - but what I know is accurate is Books Read and Pages Read - so next years stats will be much more organized hopefully

Love the graphs!!

>41 Kassilem: thanks I like making the graphs - I even use them as examples when I'm teaching excel classes at the library :)

I've been so busy recently and I haven't actually been able to get into anything enough to finish it - that is until Sunday night - I finished that book on Wed - more to come later - AND it's a big surprise LOL

Title: Fifty Shades of Grey
Author: E. L. James
Date Finished: 12/2/2015
Genre: Fiction/ Romance
Opinion: It wasn't bad - I started the movie somewhere in the middle because it was on the TV and said to myself - it's missing something - guess I'll try the book again - read it in 3 days LOL - do I think that it is as great as all the hype? - NO - but it was just as decent as many of the other romances I have read lately - and since I have been in a reading funk I feel better for finishing something - I'm working on book 2 now as well as listening to Pretty Little Liars here's hoping my book funk is gone :)

>31 lovelyluck: Yeah, I think more than half the population would die if 50 Shades was mandatory reading. I'm thinking the guys would be in the majority.

Hahaha! Your husband sounds like a wife. ;) I guess the only reason I asked was because I doubt I'd post anything naughty of myself. No, wait. I have, but my face wasn't in the pic, so no one would be able to go, "Aha! I know that wax job anywhere!" (So joking. It wasn't that x-rated of a pic.) But at least you appeased him and now he has a Facebook stalker. Yay! Happiness all around. ;)

Absolute high fives! :) I hope she had a ball and loads of compliments. That is such a gorgeous outfit.

>34 lovelyluck: Ha! I loved that photo so much back in the day. My sis and I would repeatedly say that, which just drove our mom crazy.

>35 lovelyluck: I can't help it! It looks like she's playing in poo. I think it's her not wearing a diaper that makes me think that. XP

>44 saraslibrary: My husband does kinda sound like a wife LOL - I wouldn't post anything naughty of myself - but if he is ok with it being out there who am I to stop it - he is a very appetizing man :)

I can't believe I did it either - especially with all the complaining about it recently - I always knew I would watch the movie once it came to HBO - otherwise why do I pay for freaking cable? - but the darned movie just felt like it was missing a lot of inner comments - kinda like hunger games - so there you go - now you can do it too :) well maybe watch it first

des. 6, 2015, 2:54am

Well, that's very open-minded of you to let him out of the kitchen and allow him to be eye candy for women--and probably men--on the interwebs. ;)

Yes, definitely get your money's worth from the cable company. I don't have cable and doubt I ever will get it--too expensive. Oh, and I actually have seen the movie Fifty Shades of Grey--and even own it! (should I be admitting that? Or "worse" yet, admit that I liked it)--but I'm still stuck on...*checking* 231/chapter 14 in the book. I'm sure I'll get through it soonish, but...yeah, I can't think of a good excuse. :D

I've seen The Hunger Games (just the first one), but I haven't read the book yet. That's another one I want to read before I end up watching all the movie sequels. Now I understand why some people just wait for the movie. If you're a slow reader like I am, it just makes sense to spend 2 hours watching the story than a week or month or more reading it.

>46 saraslibrary: Admit to owning 50 shades - why the heck not I admitted to purchasing the book- you have had worse on your list of movies (and the movie was definitely not bad) - not sure where you are at on page 231 because my nook puts chapter 14 between pages 196 and 211 but from what I remember it is a blah chapter - you have my permission to skip to chapter 15 and the discussion of the contract :)

I hate when the movie comes out before I have a chance to read the book - but if it is one of those books that has just been sitting around waiting to be picked up for ever - eh, I might as well watch it - if I think it is any good I will try the book :)

The Hunger Games - for shame how could you not read that first - it's okay I forgive you! You may watch the next 3 in the series

des. 6, 2015, 8:50pm

Oh Sexy Sunday - since we are on a 50 shades discussion here's one of the only sexy with stubble Jamie Dornan

for however long the picture remains enjoy :)

>47 lovelyluck: I think e-versions and physical versions of books have different page numbering. The page I ended on had an email from Christian, something about his not understanding why Anastasia is flaky and hopes things work out. And then Chapter 14 begins with:
"Christian is standing over me grasping a plaited leather riding crop."

Who knows why I didn't continue reading, especially with a chapter that starts like that!

LOL! I have your permission to skip chapters? Naw, that would bug me to no end if I do that. I'm one of those annoying readers who even reads copyright pages, advertisements in the back of books, etc. I have to read everything or I feel like I'm cheating and missed out on something important.

I know! I really want to read The Hunger Games, but it doesn't fill any of my categories for the rest of the year, so maybe next year? *fingers crossed*

>48 lovelyluck: Yay! I love the pic. :)

Author: Sara Shepard
Date Finished: 12/7/2015
Genre: YA
Notes: I have watched the first 2 or 3 seasons of this on TV
Opinion: From what I remember of the show it follows very similarly - the differences involve the characters appearances I think that is it - any who - I liked it and am now listening to the second in the series so there is that :)

>49 saraslibrary: - How did you manage to stop there? - the rest of that chapter is blah but that particular part is a juicy little bit? LOL no press to skip pages - I feel you but I must admit I have been skipping around in the second book because I feel like Ana just keeps repeating the same things over, and over, and over again - it's a little excessive to me and has taking me a little longer to get through than the first book for that reason I think - who knows :)

Hunger Games - What are you categories for the rest of the year - maybe we can make it fit... all you have to do is just squeeze a tiny bit right?

It is a pretty nice pic for reals

Laters (LOL)

Title: Fifty Shades Darker
Author: E. L. James
Date Finished: 12/10/2015
Genre: Fiction/ Romance
Notes: OMG - I can't believe I'm still reading this crap LOL
Opinion:Again it wasn't bad - but it wasn't all that great either... there was a lot of inner character thoughts repeated OVER, and OVER, and OVER - still I want to know what happens next - I do like the characters - just not the repetitiveness - without all that repetitiveness the book would have been half as long and I wouldn't have skimmed over most of the ending LOL - again repetitiveness - does it make my point
Rating: 5/10
Pages: I'm not totally sure it only told of the pages per chapter - weird overdrive ebook - so goodreads has it as 532

It's my birthday - and a good reason to buy a few new books RIGHT? I'll be off soon and purchasing a couple new editions for my home library :)

I will not be buying another 50 novel - that is for sure - but maybe a couple new romances or YA :) wish me luck!

des. 11, 2015, 7:50pm

Happy birthday!! Good luck on your book searching :)

des. 11, 2015, 8:22pm

Happy birthday!

des. 11, 2015, 11:23pm

>51 lovelyluck: Was that a rhetorical question? If so, I know what you mean. It was a pretty hot start to a chapter. But I think I was reading at night, and I try to make it to the end of a chapter, no matter what's going on in the following one. Believe me, I'm tempted sometimes to skip through books, but I always feel like it's cheating. I'm so strict with my reading. :D

I have my horror bingo to still finish, which The Hunger Games doesn't qualify for. Then there's my horror December read, which needs to be a contemporary/modern gothic book. (I'll probably go with Interview With the Vampire.) And the last one is the 2015 Reading Challenge, which I know I won't finish. Unless it's "a popular author's first book," I don't have a place for The Hunger Games. Oh, wait. There's "a book a friend recommended." Still, I don't know if I'll be able to squeeze it in before the 31st. We'll see....

LOL! Definitely, for reals. ;)

And, omg, they finally did it:

Legos are doing everything!

>52 lovelyluck: I think I'll get to that one... um, sometime? :P

>53 lovelyluck: Happy birthday and good luck finding some non-50 Shade-ish romances! :) I wouldn't be surprised if there are some teen 50 Shades by now.

>54 Kassilem: & >55 MickyFine: Thanks for the B-day wishes! - I ended up getting a couple of YA books but I can't remember the names of them now - they are still in a bag in the car - hiding from my husband :)

>56 saraslibrary: OMG I love 50 Shades of Bricks - that is hilarious! My birthday wish that Mr. Luck spanks me came true - but it was in passing and nothing came of it :(

teen 50 shades - those pesky teens what would they know of that particular lifestyle :) LOL - but I have read some pretty disturbing teen books - and was horrified to find they had put flowers in the attic in the teen fiction section at barnes and noble - even if I did read it when I was 12 LOL

I hope you get a chance to finish it soon so you can join the masses - but I'm still all for the movie rather than the book - it was more - um - stimulating? :)

Thanks for the b-day wishes

Author: E. L. James
Date Finished: 12/13/2015
Genre: Fiction/ Romance
Notes: OMG - I can't believe I'm still reading this crap LOL
Opinion:I did like this particular story better than the second book - it had more or a conflict and solution and wasn't an inner turmoil repeater :) so I'm glad I have finished the series - I can officially claim that it wasn't all the non-readers cracked it up to be - (Probably because they don't read often and didn't know there was better stuff out there) - I went in biased and expecting to dislike it immensely but I became rather found of Mr. Grey and Ms. Steele - not so much of the author though!

Date Finished: 12/14/2015

Opinion:There where some pretty interesting Etsy items in there - I especially love the authors commentary on some of the items - mostly "Tell her you'd marry her all over again with prolapsed anus" - a bit raunchy but seriously funny if you were looking at the Brooch with Vintage Button picture above it... if you are easily offended by bathroom talk, sexuality/ body parts, inappropriateness then this book is not for you - and neither is Etsy -you should totally stay away from it...

>57 lovelyluck: That is funny about Flowers in the Attic being in the teen section at B&N. It's in the teen section of most libraries and bookstores I'm in nowadays, too. And yes, I read FiTA in middle school as well, and I'm still like, "That's a kids book??"

I'm still postponing on the Fifty book. Maybe next year, because I'm trying to cram in last-minute challenge reads. But you're right: the movie was more stimulating than the book. :)

>59 lovelyluck: I loved that book too! :D I never read it front-to-back, though; just flipped through it, so I think I missed out on the prolapsed anus. Darn! :P

>61 lovelyluck: That's too bad about Dorothy Must Die. I love the book cover at least.

>64 lovelyluck: Yeah, I may have a second go with the audiobook to get through Fifty Shades. That might work, since it's helped me get through Interview With the Vampire, a book I've been procrastinating about reading for, oh, 20 years! :P

Is Grey kind of like a prequel to Fifty Shades? Does it give a little more history to his background or anything? Spoilers are fine; I don't mind.

FiTA - I know! The horrible, if-I-were-a-parent part of me goes, "My children will never read that! Over my dead body!" But then I remember all the dirty things I saw and read as a kid (I used to rip the sex scenes out of a distant cousin's romance novels and keep them for "alone" times *facepalm* And let's not mention all the "adult" magazines I saw as a child either.). So, honestly, I have no right to tell a child not to read Flowers in the Attic, since it's a little more PG-rated than some of the stuff I got my hands on.

When I was at work a few days ago, I found the Regretsy book and found the prolapsed anus pin. :D I hate to admit it, but it's kind of pretty, as long as you don't read the caption and realize what it really is. o.0

LOL @ oh look a squirrel!

>69 saraslibrary: I had to switch to the audio to get through Allegiant from the Divergent series - it was just blah

Grey is not a prequel.... it is Grey's point of view in the first Fifty Shades novel.... but it does give a little more insight than we get in Anastasia's mind

I am right there with you about FiTA - I met my husband when I was 12 - let's just say I wouldn't want my 12 year old venturing into what I was doing - I would prefer her to read FiTA instead :)

:) squirrels - I aim to please LOL

I did it - will I did two more books so far - I have about 2 hrs left on Going Bovine so I might complete that as I drive to and from work as I like to be productive when I drive so I listen to audio books - well at least when I remember my headphones

des. 29, 2015, 9:55pm

So my crazy story - back in like July my car broke and I borrowed my mom's car.... she has a cd player in the car so I was score I can listen to an audio book.... but then her car's brakes failed on my while I was driving home one night and it was - bye bye car with cd player.... so I returned the book thinking I would get back to it eventually... then I paid my fines at the library within the city I live in (not the one in which I work for - totally different city) and I could check out items through overdrive from them - they had Going Bovine on audio and I was like score I can finish listening to the story.... so yesterday I'm listening to the the story on my drive home and it says expires in 1 day - okay I think - I have about an hour left and 1 day to listen I'll be good..... nope I got in the car this morning opened the overdrive app and it was gone :( - so I said that's okay I will just check it out when I get to work - WRONG I couldn't log in when I got to work and there fore couldn't check it out :( So I thought i will rip the last disc of the audio and load it onto my ipad and finish it that was - WRONG I couldn't download the itunes to my desktop at work therefore being unable to transfer to my device - SOOOOOOOOOO I went over to the teen section - picked up the book and skipped to the last chapter I remember seeing - 47 - guess what???? I was only like 53 pages from the end of the book it I started on the first page of chapter 47 - so I figured let me just check this out and finish it when I get home - turns out I was in the middle of chapter 47 and I finished the book in no time.... it was just one of those crazy things that happen to me occasionally because my last name is Luck :)

Title: Sleeping Beauty Vampire Slayer
Author: Maureen McGowan
Date Finished: 12/29/2015
Notes: labeled as a choose your own adventure book - but it isn't really - you only get to make 2 choice in the entire story
Opinion: it was very slow to start and then I got to choose what happened and it picked up a little - because I got to choose - then it started getting boring again - and then I got to choose again - after the second choice I was excited to see what would happen - but I was disappointed in the ending... and no matter what you chose - that would be the ending... the romance was way to quick - the solution was also way to quick - everything just coincidentally happened - not the YA I was expecting - more so for younger teen I would think maybe even tweens - I would allow my 9 year to read this - if she wanted to - it wasn't bad but it just wasn't good either
