Transcendentalism vs existentialism

At the Arlington Texas, UU, our "Sunday School Gang" (10AM to 11AM the 1st and 3rd Sundays) is just finishing up the Teaching Company lecture series: Emerson, Thoreau and the Transcendental Movement. Then we will jump back into existentialism, which I feel is the modern equivalent to transcendentalism. The existentailism syllabus, will include, every other Sunday Thus Spoke Zarathustra.
