I haven’t exactly done the greatest job of posting to my thread this year, but at least I’ve manage to keep my reading lists updated!

Actually, it’s been a somewhat difficult year and the more stressed I am, the more I read. My totals will be outrageous, but there are worse addictions. The reading time is helped that I’ve given up TV again, lol.
I’ve been doing some quick luring and participating in TIOLI Challenges and occasionally in the AAC and BAC. I’m going to try to post a little more and de-lurk on a few threads in these last weeks of the year.

Thanks for dropping by!

I'm not officially trying to read a book from every country or region or state, I just like maps and a visual display of my reading.

As with the maps, I’m not putting any great effort into reading a book from every year – but I am interested in how my reading clumps in terms of publication date. Anything pre-1900 I’ll simply list individually.

I've mostly been doing enjoyable but fairly self-indulgent reading lately - not that I have a problem with that! Mostly fairly short books - science fiction, fantasy, mysteries - with the occasional nonfiction thrown in. I'm still working on my Robert A. Heinlein chronological reread - I'm late enough in the 1950s that there are only two more short stories of his for me to read. This month I'm rereading the Ben Aaronovitch Peter Grant / Rivers of London series. The next book, The Hanging Tree was supposed to be out this month but the publication date has been pushed back to June 15, 2016. Sigh. I'm keeping up with the TIOLI Challenges and some of my reading is directed by the Category Challenge and sub Challenges there.

There are always plenty of fabulous books to be read!

Happy new thread, Dejah! Sorry to read that this year has been somewhat difficult and stressful for you. Awesome on the reading front! Happy to see you read Horrorstor, which happens to fit my idea of a horror story (more fun, less horror). ;-)

>10 lkernagh: I really did enjoy Horrorstor, probably because I'm right there with you on the more fun, less horror idea. Horror just really isn't my thing. I read Slade House earlier this month and I'm glad it was short, lol.

I recently finished Zane Grey's Betty Zane, his first published work and the first of his I've read. There's a reason he couldn't find a publisher for Betty Zane and had to self-publish - it's pretty bad! It's a product of its time, but even beyond that it's a bit much. Grey is clearly conflicted about Native Americans and has seriously romanticized the lives of his ancestors. He found his greatest success with Westerns (this one is a historical novel), and was hugely popular, so I imagine his writing improved. I'll give him another shot one of these days.

In contrast, I just read Of Swine and Roses, a short story by the husband and wife writing team Ilona Andrews, and I loved it. It appears to be set in the Kate Daniels world and it's the simple tale of a really bad date.... I'll be happy to read anything they write.

Hi Dejah! It's good to see you posting again! I am sorry to hear about your difficult year. I hope life will smooth out for you very soon.

I've had Betty Zane in my OverDrive audio TBR for a while. I don't think I'll be in a hurry to listen to it.

>16 cbl_tn: Thanks, Carrie -- I hope so, too!

Definitely do not rush to listen to Betty Zane - although perhaps it would be better on audio. I did actually finish it, so it could have been worse.I did find it interesting for the historical setting. I looked up a few of his ancestors too see how the historical record matched his tale and he didn't deviate wildly - he just prettied it up a bit. One of his ancestors married a Native American - in the book he actually calls her an Indian Princess! Gotta love those Indian Princesses in the family tree.....
