Helloooooooo there and welcome to Club Read 2016!

First order of business:
Would anyone like to volunteer to start off & keep an eye on our traditional annual threads?
Thanks to AnnieMod (What Are You Reading), NanaCC (Best of Quarter/Year), and RidgewayGirl (Interesting Articles) for keeping up the traditional group threads this year!

Also, please let me know (now and at any time in the future) if there are groups you'd like me to add to the list of other groups of interest, and if there are any theme/group read threads you'd like posted to the group page.

And lastly, go say hello in our Introduce Yourself and Greet Your Fellow Club Readers thread! :D

So glad to see that Club Read continues with its now 3rd admin! It's been a truly terrific place here on LT since 2009 (created late 2008), made terrific by those excellent and diverse readers who congregate here. Thanks, Monkey, for taking over. And thanks to Rebecca for all her years of fabulous admin. This will be the 8th year of Club Read. Wheeeee.

And created, because she was too modest to say so, by our very own avaland/Lois.

I will continue to do the "best of quarter" and "best of year" threads, unless someone else is aching to do it. :)

I'll continue with the onerous labor of the Interesting Articles thread, unless someone else would like to open that thread and throw out an occasional link to an appropriate article?

Thanks! That's all three covered, then. :D

>2 AnnieMod:

Thanks Annie for taking over the Reading threads! I was running out of introductions to write! Otherwise it's an easy job as I just continued the threads once they reached 200 posts.

Hi, how do you add photos to your thread on here please?

15The_Hibernator
des. 17, 2015, 8:55 pm

Is the photo already on the internet? Or do you want to upload off your computer? 🤗👽👻

16.Monkey.
des. 18, 2015, 6:07 am

>14 BookieWorm: The photo has to be uploaded somewhere. Then you right-click it, copy image location/source (text varies by browser), and use HTML to put it in a post: <img src="URL HERE" />

>14 BookieWorm: I've found Photobucket is a pretty reliable free repository for LT images.

Personally I think PB is super awful, it's pretty much my last choice these days, but then I also dislike all the free options and pay for a better site. But anything not large can be uploaded to LT anyhow.

>16 .Monkey.: One can add a height or width restriction for a photo by adding height="200" in your line of code before that last closing caret. The "200" being whatever number one decides, of course.

I find Photobucket satisfactory for photos that aren't book covers, but one should not attempt to edit the size in Photobucket. Instead, after you paste in their line of code into your message field. Replace their last bit of code that begins with alt = with the same height restriction as noted above, making sure to not to change beyond the quotations marks. Does that make sense?

For CR readers interested in Reading Globally, check out the third quarter thread, featuring Soviet and Post Soviet Writers. anisoara has created a truly comprehensive list of suggestions: http://www.librarything.com/topic/226285

Another quarter has rolled around on Reading Globally. This time the theme is Dictators, Dictatorships, and Other Forms of Tyranny. Once again, the lists of possible titles are growing. Please have a look and add your own. http://www.librarything.com/topic/234398

CR 2017 is up and ready! :)

It was brought to my attention that end of the year threads can often get overlooked as gears shift into the new year, so how about if we put up the "best of quarter" thread in this group, and bring the "best of year" thread over to the 2017 group so folks can contribute on into January and such, as things get wrapped up, and not lose track of it?

As everyone knows by now, actress Carrie Fisher died today. Judging by my FaceBook feed, most are remembering her from Star Wars, but I don't do Star Wars and to me she's an author. LT lists her book credits as:

Wishful Drinking
Postcards from the Edge
Surrender the Pink
Delusions of Grandma
The Best Awful
Shockaholic
The Princess Diarist
For Children and Those Who Love Them

I read Postcards from the Edge shortly after it was published and gave it 5 stars at the time.

I also remember her from one of my very favourite films, When Harry Met Sally. "I want you to know . . . that I will never want that wagon wheel coffee table." Sigh, great scene written by another wonderful writer who we lost too soon -- Nora Ephron. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZW8zvaTRuGo

And that's not all. Richard Adams, author of Watership Down also died today. He was 96, so more of a life well lived.

I did hear about Carrie, and fortunately my other social network hangout is full of awesome friends, so while I had never realized before that she wrote, I did get enlightened last night over there!
I did not hear about Adams, how sad, Watership Down was brilliant. At least he was older, but still. :(
ETA Actually Wiki says he died on the 24th, so a few days ago. Now I'm extra annoyed, I don't think I heard about anyone else dying that day, so there's even less reason for his to have been overlooked! >.<

>37 .Monkey.:

I don't think the news for him broke until today - maybe it was kept quiet because of the day or simply because the family wanted to mourn in private for a bit

Hm, could be. In any case it sucks! :(
