I haven't read very many fairy tales yet, I have just started; but I know that there are many different variations on some of the "classics" and I would like to know which are your favourites. If you can't think of any what about: Cinderella (The Grimm’s version that I have has no fairy godmother), The Frog Prince (The Grimm’s version that I have she does not kiss the frog, but he sleeps in her bed for three nights to turn human again), Snow White, The Princess and the Pea (or The Real Princess), Sleeping Beauty (or Briar Rose), The Little Mermaid (or The Little Sea-Maid) and so on.

There's a variation on Cinderella that takes place in Egypt called The Egyptian Cinderella that I always liked growing up because it was so beautifully illustrated and different from the traditional version of the story.

I'm a fan of Ruth Manning-Sanders many international fairy-tale compilations.

I really love The Sleeping Beauty by C. S. Evans, especially because it's illustrated by Arthur Rackham.

My favorite retelling is Beauty by Sheri S. Tepper. She goes way beyond the traditional fairy tale and goes into problems with the environment. This is an adult fantasy novel though, so I'm not sure that's quite what you're looking for.

I really enjoyed Wicked. I was kind of surprised by how dark & sexual the book was, but definitely in a good way.
I have Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and plan on reading that soon.
