Many people would threat this topic as finding a high catalog value stamp in an unexpected place, but I propose a slighly different view of the subject. Over the years, the single 'find' that excited me most has a very moderate monetery value.

In the late 1960s, the Cincinnati (Hamilton County) courthouse was clearing out some old corespondence and documents to make room. A lawyer I knew was enaged to review some of this to see if anything was worth keping. Not being a collector, he asked my opinion an some stamps found in the boxes. We found several thousands of dollars in market value that were then sold by the county through a local dealer. But my excitement came from a group of perhaps 20 dollars value that I was allowed to keep.

My discovery was a number of documentary and proprietary revenue stamps with initials and dates for cancellations. They were all cancelled by my Great-Grandfather. I've given some to children, nephews, nieces, a one of my grandchildren, and still have several packets for others when they are older.

So - what has been your most interesting find?
