I saw this image on Pinterest. It's supposedly a bookstore window in Romania, but I can't confirm it.

You've got the picture sideways! They're breaking through a glass ceiling.

But what about the tables and bookshelves on inside the building? Or the car in the background?

Although, it's a neat thought that this could be comprised of all female authors, and actually have the books going through a glass ceiling. :)

Yeah that isn't sideways, the ground, the shelves, the tables & chairs, all in their proper places.

That's your typical patriarchal viewpoint. The male-centric ground/shelves/tables/chairs all adhering to the stereotypical masculine view, making the female-authored books imagine that they are not subject to a glass ceiling. Jeeze, ladies, it's just a wall! Nothing stopping you coming though but your own ovaries.

I like to think of it as a bunch of anne rice and bram stoker books, and there is a plump, juicy human throat on the other side of the glass.

Maybe they feel uneasy about the bookseller and are desperate to escape.
