Michael Moorcock

I've just finished adding all my Michael Moorcock books to my catalogue, and in the process have realised two things:

1) He's written a lot of series.
2) Not only that, there's the whole 'Multiverse' thing linking a lot of them together.

As a result, I'm not only stumped when it comes to getting them shelved (as I like to group my books by standalone novels first (alphabetically by title), then series by series order, and finally short story collections), I'm also not entire sure where I'd start reading them either.

Any advice, folks?

For him, I tend to put them as all the Eternal Champion stuff together, then the others, and group the former by character.

If I was going to start reading them now, I'd start with Elric (and Daker/Hawkmoon/Corum)

Stumbling across this rather late, but you may or may not know that there is an 'official' way of reading the multiverse novels.

When they were collected for the Orion (UK publisher) and White Wolf (US publisher) omnibus editions, Moorcock (I guess working with his publishers) put them in some sort of order. The confusing thing is that the UK order is different to the US order (apparently due to sensitivities in the US market - Von Bek being too tough a place to start), but there you go.

Of course, since the eternal champion omnibus series were published in the 90s Moorcock has added to it, so those need to be folded in too. It looks like the upcoming Elric movie is also breathing new life into that sub-series of the eternal champion series, with new additions featuring new material on the way.

Yeah, I started reading them long before White Wolf even existed, so never worried about that. I still haven't got to the White Wolf's son, either. It ain't too simple, certainly. :)

I haven't read them myself, but I have 17 Michael Moorcock books from the 70s, in various conditions.
