I think each of the Lewis Classics deserves its own thread and commentary. and I hope other members will join in praise and other commentary of the subject book of this thread. The contents of this book began as British Broadcasting Co radio texts by Lewis, a professor and well-known author at Oxford, during the second world war, who was actively serving as a volunteer coastal watcher, even though he had previously served with distinction in WWI. The radio broadcasts were first published as three separate books, and later consolidated.
