The sarcophagus appears to have been undisturbed for some 2,000 years. There is also a white alabaster head in the tomb, probably representing the person in the sarcophagus.

Oh, sure. Open the giant mysterious sarcophagus. That always works out well.

It should work at least as well as entering a deserted cabin in the forest, going downstairs and finding a journal of incantations.

I reckon it's filled with overdue library books.

>5 bluepiano: If they were from the Library of Alexandria that would be quite the find.

There's a piece in the Guardian here:—
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jul/12/archaeologists-open-huge-granite-s...

It doesn't add much but explains that they hope to open it where it is rather than try to transfer it indoors first. Seemingly because of its size (the lid weighs 15 tons). Quite a time needed to prepare because they will need to secure the preservation of the contents — all those books?

Heard about this on Science Friday on NPR, but forgot to post about it.

Just in case you missed the news, here it is: https://interestingengineering.com/the-2000-year-old-sarcophagus-finally-opened-...

>9 davidgn: 'That happened.'

It did, and when I drank the juice everybody clapped and Alexander Einstein gave me 100$.
