I'm looking for book suggestions for literacy for adult female African-American & Latino readers in the chapter book level.
I've gotten them Virginia Hamilton & Gary Paulsen.
I'm not a reading teacher & I'm getting them books via PaperbackSwap. (I'm also not their teacher. Just getting them for their teacher & classroom.)
I want to encourage reading & whatever I can get them interested in would be wonderful.
I NEED SUGGESTIONS!!!! Please!!! Please!!!

Look for books published by Orca. They have some collections designed for upper high schoolers - typically with a more urban background. A few of their collections go as low as a first or second grade reading level.

I'm not sure if you are looking for chapter books for instruction or independent reading, but check out Townsend Press. They have the Bluford High series that provides contemporary themes at an easier reading level. They also publish biography and history titles that are of interest to adolescents and adults, as well as some classic literature that has been adapted. Saddleback Educational Publishing also provides leveled books, including classic literature. Some of those titles have books of at least three levels of reading. Maybe with adults, they could get the gist of a novel and want to read more!
