Title - wrong ISBN

I keep running into entries like this.

I'm not going to start an editing war over this, but I disagree with the practice.

I don't mind starting an editing war. Separating a single copy out because of a wrong ISBN is not right.

Agreed. I work on the principle is that if title and ISBN disagree, the title is right. That's based on the assumption that a user is more likely to fix the title in their catalog if it's wrong, and that lots of users won't even notice if the ISBN is wrong.

There's a group here that will separate out each individual ISBN because they feel they are different. I put them all back together.

If you search 'wrong isbn' you will find several. I put some back, concentrating on the ones with reviews.

Title beats ISBN - as much as I would love to keep the editions clean, people will fix the parts they see the most - titles and authors. Separating their copies because they did not know they have to change the isbn or because they ended up with a wrong one because they temporarily selected a messed up amazon cover some time in the past is neither productive nor how the site works.

Adding warnings is fine. Separating these editions out is not.

One of the ones I looked at was bad Amazon data. I did put the correction in to Amazon.

I have a question about The Beautifull Cassandra by Jane Austen. The ISBN on my copy is 9780691181530 and the book I have only has one story in it. I scanned it in to add it to my catalogue but the LT link goes to a compilation of Austen juvenilia with the same title.

I don't know how to find out if the publisher used the same ISBN or not. If it is different, could someone please uncombine them for me?

There is also https://www.librarything.com/work/2178435. This contains a mixture of various English and German ISBNs. I don't have the time right now to research them.

ETA I removed one of the German titles, as it was a selection of letters Jane Austen wrote to her sister Cassandra, and had nothing to do with the novel. https://www.librarything.com/work/23460170/editions

I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be separated or not, but it did look like it should be.

I need opinions on a specific situation.

There appears to be two collections of Oscar Wilde's The Happy Prince and Other Tales/Stories (and I'm going to let the touchstone grab the most popular in the system). In attempting to move out the reviews for the nine-story work from the five-story work, I found one group of 90 copies in which its only review is for one but the ISBN is for the other (if Amazon.com is to be believed). Should I move those 90 copies back to where the review is for the wrong work? The titles are the same.

If the ISBN is for a certain work, I would leave the 90 copy edition there even if the review of one copy is wrong.
