****SPOILERS****Need to have finished Captain's Fury****

Just a random thought.

Ok so Tavi hasn't manifested any furies yet. He hasn't found a fury that is attracted to him. Could it simply be that he hasn't been practicing his crafting long enough; only two years. He's technically a 7 year old when it comes to furies. (Remember the conversation between Gauis and Fidelias, where he asks when Septimus first showed his fury craft. It was when he was 5, and Tavi showed his fury craft after he had been away from Isana's negative influence for 5 years.)

Could it be that due to his job he hasn't had time to get to know the more temperamental county furies that are around him for these two years, and that if he went home he might have better luck with furies he had grown up with? Or because he had never had any fury craft maybe they weren't even really aware of him and he'd have the same problems as with the ones near his command?

And here is an interesting thought. No Alerans have spent any length of time in the blood lands of the Canin to our knowledge. What kinds of furies might be there? The less civilized areas in Alera, the stronger the furies, because they haven't been broken down. Well . . . in Canin, they've never been "used."

Can you imagine the furies that Tavi might collect while over there? Then the next question would be. Could Tavi bring them back to Alera? Since it seems that some of the furies seem to be bound to a specific thing, while others seem not too. (Not sure how that works)

Just something I was thinking about. ^_^

All very interesting thoughts.

I think that you are right. In terms of crafting Tavi is only 7 yrs of age. He also said it himself that if he back in the academy he'd have done enough to earn a few beads in all the areas of crafting. So he is making good progress. I think that he hasn't done more because 1) as Kitai so often chides him he tries too hard and he needs to just let it come and 2) he just doesn't have the opportunities to practice and use his furies as others had. Since as Scipio he was always supposed to have Furies he couldn't exactly practice openly in front of his men or ask for help in training because he didn't want word to get out that he was Tavi. Now that everyone knows who he is I think that his training will increase dramatically as he can no do it openly and get help from those around him.

I think that its good that he's going over to the Blood Lands. I think that he'll attrack Furies there. The ones in Alera already tend to be spoken for. They all seem to be attracted to the familes and people natural to the areas that they reside in. Tavi is from Calderon Valley and Isana has essentially poisoned all those Furies against him (still angers me that she did that to him). So that doesn't leave him many options. So I think that while in the Blood Lands he and Kitai will each attract many furies and they'll both be able to manifest them.

Yes he will be able to practice more openly, but it still will be limited I think. He’s the princeps. He should be able to manifest furies, so depending on who he’s around he’s going to have to be careful. It would not due for it to get out that he was having trouble. But then again any help is better than nothing. Though I think that since his case is so special, that many people, even if he could tell them, might not be able to help. I personally just think time is what is needed mainly.

I wouldn’t doubt that he’d attract furies while in the Blood Lands, but I wonder if they will be able to come back with him. I thought some furies had to stay in certain places. I’m not sure I understand that, but I thought I’d read that somewhere in the books. I mean isn’t that how the high lords and mainly Gauis can control things over such a wide area. They have furies that are “tied” to certain areas and remain there until they are needed. (As a side thought, I wonder how that works . . . )

I also think that he could find furies in Alera or the Bloodlands if . . .

. . . he wasn’t “7 years old.”
. . . he wasn’t so busy.
. . . he wasn’t so tired.
. . . he wasn’t trying so hard.
. . . he wasn’t stuck in one area.
. . . he had someone to explain the who process of finding them. (though he probably has and we just haven’t heard it.)

Didn’t Isana not find Rill till she was 13?

Yes he is the princeps, but the majority of the people in the realm all know that he is also Tavi. The "freak" with no furies. So it will not come as a shock that he can't manifest them yet. In fact most people will be shocked that he can do any fury crafting at all.

A lot of his hiding and sneaking about to practice before was because he was posing as Rufus Scipio. Scipio had furies, though only minor abilities. If it had become known that he didn't have any abilities everyone would have known that he was really Tavi. Hence the secrecy.

I think that that any furies that he may attract in the bloodlands will be able to come back with him. Furies can get tied to people as well as to locations. Otherwise noone would be able to travel anywhere because their furies would remain in the lands they orginated from.

I also don't think that there is any process to finding a fury I think that they find you. I also think that it might have been Bernard who was 13 when the crafting came to him.

Another random thought. I wonder what kind of power and connection Tavi and through him Kitai will have with the Vord. It seems his blood awoke it, and three times it overlooked him in Academs. So, I wonder how that is going to play into Princep's Fury.

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that he didn't have any furies during those times that he has met up with him to date.

I think it's something special to Tavi. The Vord has always been the enemy of the Marat and they don't seem to have furies either.
