Andrea Althoff

When I worked in finance, the last week of the current year and the first week of the new year were a complete frenzy. Fund transfers, amended appropriations, reports to council, long days and sleepless nights etc etc etc. I often told my co-workers what we need is a month called Catchupuary - a span of time where time stood still so we could finish what needs to be done in the old year and prepare for the new!

Fast forward 10 years.....

Soooo, this year I'm going to begin a new month on my thread, same year, new month. It is called Catchupuary! It will begin the day after Christmas and extend to the first Tuesday in January. This year it's 12/26/19 to 1/7/20 It will be all the work (aka books) I started in 2019 but did not finish. The work is extensive, the hours could be long but I'll be able to begin 2020 with a clean slate.

My assignment............finish the following books:
Life & Times of Michael K COMPLETED 12-29-19
Sharp Objects COMPLETED 12-27-19
Carnegie Hill COMPLETED 12-17-19
Norwegian by Night 32%
The House of Broken Angels p.31/326
The Death and Life of the Great Lakes p.42/321
The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend p.16/384
The Institute p.43/557

See, this is what happens when a book funk controls your life. Is this doable? Let's find out together!

>5 Berly: Hehehe, That's what I'm talkin about! Here in Catchupuary Land it's only books started in 2019 but not yet completed. So, your new ones probably won't count here............unless, of course you began reading all 11 of them ;0)

Okie Dokie! It's official! Catchupuary has begun! I've got my coffee, some Christmas cookies and 125 pages of Sharp Objects. Soooooo, off to work :)

Update #2 50 pages remain in Sharp Objects (I think I know who the murderer might be) however I must take a time out to attend a Boxing Day Party at a neighbor's home. I made rumaki's earlier, now they are in the oven.
I'll continue reading when we return home, hopefully will finish this book

I'm home from said party. Three glasses of wine, a load of towels in the washing machine and I'm back to my book. Easy peasy!

>9 Berly: Thanks, Kim! I just love that GIF! Happy holiday season to you too!

Just completed Sharp Objects. I'll post a mini review on my main thread and begin to finish Life & Times of Michael K. Nothing really going on today so maybe I'll complete it later today.

Update #3 80 pages to go on Michael K. It's a bit of a sloggy read. I'm looking for something good to happen to him.

Update #4 Finished Michael K. I need to think this one through a little before I post a review.

Up next is The Death and Life of the Great Lakes. I'm submitting this for our neighborhood book swap so it must be read before I send it off.

Happy New Year, Kim, the past two days were awful! We lost power at 6am Monday morning and it wasn't repaired till 4:30 pm New years eve! We were hosting a party!! So we took our defrosting meat to a friends house, picked it up at 4:30 - changed the party time from 7:30 to 8:30 and from 5 to 8:30 I cooked like I've never cooked before, like an audio book on x2. It all worked out - had a great time but the anxiety and lack of sunlight cut into my reading time.
Luckily, Catchupuary continues to Tuesday, Jan 7th so still pushing to finish another book or two while at the same time begin reading January selection for library book discussion.
Eeegads, sounds like 2020 is stressful already.

So, kitchen clean up this morning and then pushing through TDALOTGL in order to pass it tomorrow.

Wow!! Talk about complicated! Glad you pulled it off and good luck tomorrow.

>15 Berly: Thanks Kim for following me on my first Catchupuary thread! Next year.....no....this year I'll begin Catchupuary on Dec 15 - Dec 31. I realize that any books I finish now would be on 2020 Goodreads, not 2019, so LT and GR total would be out of sync.
That said, I'm officially ending Catchupuary today.
I passed TDALOTGL yesterday and on schedule. I didn't finish the last couple of chapters but I've got a year to borrow it from the library and finish it up.

It's time to step into 2020 and make my new thread. See you there!
