Letterpress set by hand, printed damp on an 1846 Columbian handpress on watermarked, all-rag paper handmade at St Cuthberts Mill in England.
Sanskrit running heads printed in maroon colour.
Hand bound in in cloth produced by Indian peasants and hand-blocked in many colours.
Sewn pages.
Ragged page edges.

Absolutely gorgeous.
The Allen Press may be my favorite private press amongst my collection. The Allen Press books are exemplary in every aspect - interesting choice(s) of literature, flawless book design, beautiful illustrations, and use of color on every page. And, of course, they were absolute masters of printing with the hand press on the finest dampened handmade papers available. Why these books aren't better known or collected more avidly by serious collectors remains a mystery to me.

A beautiful and enjoyable book — I have a copy as well.
I doubt that slipcase is original; mine has an acetate jacket, which is much more typical of the Allens’ output. (I believe only their loosely bound productions, such as Persian Stories and A Venetian Story, were given boxes.)

I purchased the book second-hand in fine condition, and it came with the slipcase. If it is not original, i am grateful to the previous owner for making such a well fitted slipcase for the book.
