Use or abuse?

I often bring up Cabell outside of literary contexts.

I think I am not abusing his writing, but you be the judge, if you wish:

I think you are correct to answer that the querent should read some actual fairy tales!

I don't think Cabell quite qualifies as such, but he is relevant, and your references to him are fair. Other modern spins on "fairy tale" that would be more constructive than the Disney movies I suppose the querent must have in mind include--
Little, Big by John Crowley
The White People by Arthur Machen
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
Smith of Wooton Major by J.R.R. Tolkien
Phantastes by George MacDonald
The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany

I also approve! -- as though my approval were needed.

Cabell's approach to life is rich and useful, and putting it (back) into the universe can only help make it a little better.

A little off topic, but I very much like the sobriquet, "unlicensed semiotician" ... and, of the titles listed in >2 paradoxosalpha:, I've read all but two: the MacDonald is duly added to my wishlist, and the Machen was figuratively if not literally there already.
