Gilgamesh!

hello everybody,

i am looking at the following page about the epic of gilgamesh:

before i do anything to this (if necessary), i want to make sure i understand the rules about seperation and combining.

should all the english language editions be together, or are they seperated by translator or edition?

All English should be together, unless there are specific things about the translation that makes it unique (Like a Norton Annotated Volume, which has added essays and notes)

Since there is no single Epic of Gilgamesh but rather a variety of early texts spanning centuries, all of them incomplete in some way, it's possible that one edition might be based on an almost complete source with just a little help from other sources, while another edition might be a survey/compilation of various versions. Seems to me these two kinds should be separate but good luck figuring out which go with which without doing way too much research on it.

It's not just a question of all English editions. All editions -- regardless of language** -- that are based on the same original text and do not include extremely substantial amounts of commentary/supplementary material should be grouped together.

I agree that in the case of Gilgamesh it could be difficult to figure out what the textual basis of any given edition was.
