I'd like to thank everyone who has posted reviews in recent weeks, and particularly Carol. as a newbie I appreciate them. I have added the Ann Cleeves book just reviewed by Carol to my wishlist.

My own mystery reading has been hampered a bit by Reading Group commitments but I am close to the end of The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton which I expect everyone in the group has already read!

>13 Maura49: I read it a few months ago and thought it was excellent. Hope you continue to enjoy it. I just finished Turton's The Devil and the Dark Water last month and found it a bit "heavy". A lot of characters but the evil aboard the ship was pretty good. Hope to have another group read soon. Andrew has been "out of his mind" and super stressed trying to keep his students able to continue with as normal a school time as possible. I don't envy him his job although I'm sure he excels at it. Hope you have a great Christmas. Stay safe and well.

This is an add on that I intended to include in the message above. I was going to ask if you have read any of Peter James's Roy Grace series? There is a ton of them now but they are excellent. I highly recommend them. He has also written teo ghosty books that are standalones that I absolutely loved... but I am the "ghost story junkie". Really you will love Peter James and "Inspector Roy Grace".

Hi Carol,

I have read some of the Peter James books you mention. I like the Brighton setting. (Oddly it is a town popular with British writers and film-makers; there is a quirkiness about the place which makes it a bit different from other Brit seaside towns)

However- I gave up on Roy Grace some time ago as I began to find them extremely exploitatitive with regard to female victims. Very nasty murders featured increasingly. I am aware that you could say this of many writers and TV scriptwriters too but I found it so extreme in his case that I reluctantly dropped what I agree is a well written series and I have book loving friends who adore them. Thank you anyway for the suggestion and I will continue to read your reviews with interest.

>15 Maura49: You are more than welcome. I think Brighton must be like New York and California for American writers. Most of the world knows "where" they are even if they don't know a great deal about them. My Grandmother used to tell us that if everybody liked the same thing there wouldn't be enough of anything to go around". Irish grandmothers have a "saying" to fit all situations I think:) Thanks for reading my reviews. I love writing them. I was the only kid in school that loved writing book reports:) Sometimes it's a challenge trying to think of something to say that is "nice". The result of another grandmother tidbit..."If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".

I've been in WI for the past 10 days so I haven't had a chance to post the Americana Challenge yet for January 2021 (my mother's computer setup here is just wacky :) ). It's my priority as soon as I get home tonight to set it up so you will have it tomorrow.
