Hello! I want to read a non-fiction book for an adult that demystifies ADD and/or bipolar disorder. Thank you for the help!

Kay Redfield Jamison is great on bipolar. She has it herself so she's never condescending & she's a psychiatrist so she's informed. She's written a few books on it for general readers.

>2 susanbooks: Thank you for the recommendation! I have checked out An Unquiet Mind by Kay Redfield Jamison. This helps me complete the BookRiot Read Harder Challenge 2021. I am so glad we have this group now. :)

I think Driven to Distraction has an almost canonical status in ADD books. I am of two minds but not strongly so.

As a parent of a kid with ADHD I prefer Superparenting for ADD. (The author is a pediatrician who treats lots of kids with ADD, has kids with it, and has it himself, so lots of perspective). It is specifically written for parents with some parts aimed at teachers, but it's well-balanced without much of the alarmism that characterizes some other books on the subject. ("Race car brain with bicycle brakes" has been a tremendously useful phrase for us.)
