I'm getting Pride and Paranormal (Soul and Shadows, Book 1) by Adrienne Blake, which sounded like it could be fun :)

I won The Modern Myths: Adventures in the Machinery of the Popular Imagination by Philip Ball. I expect it'll be a challenging read since I have no literary theory background, but hopefully it'll do me good! :)

I am so excited. I am getting both of Bob Avey's books, Footprints of a Dancer and Beneath a Buried House. I can't wait to jump into them while I am on vacation next week.

I excited that I won The Third Mrs. Galway by Deirde Sinnet. It is set in Utica, New York, a hot bed of abolition of slavery activity in the early 19th century.

I got "Making contact" by Trevor Barton.

Although he seems to have deleted the book, it's coming up as "Cancelled" when I follow the link Abigail sent me...

>12 ScarletBea: I erased the message in the CK title fields but left the note in the original date that the author (or someone using his account) entered.

I'm curious about what's happened, though. Goodreads says "No longer writing books" under Barton's description and "Publication cancelled" for Making Contact.

This, despite how the book appears have been well-received in the ARCs that already went out. Example: https://www.waterstones.com/books/reviews/isbn/9781838024765#review-197334

There's no public statement about the cancellation that's easily accessible.

I know this off-topic for the thread, but I think it's important to point out that with the timing of political events, this is ominous.

>12 ScarletBea: Hi ScarletBea: I have sent you a private message, but also wanted to follow up here, to let you know that we have been contacted by the publisher, and informed that this book is no longer being published.

I'm sorry for the disappointment, and assure you that I am here to help, if you have any questions or concerns. Please contact me, either by replying to the message I sent you, or via email, at: abigailadams@librarything.com.

After googling him, both his website and twitter account have been deleted :(

>17 .mau.:. Hmm. I got the link for the book, and ran into technical challenge #1. It offered me the choice of downloading it using Adobe Digital Editions or reading online. Since I don't want to create yet another account just in order to read a book, I decided to read it online. And the text is too small for me to read without sitting about 6 inches from the screen 😢 . I can't see an easy way of magnifying it (the usual browser zoom in stuff doesn't work), so either I play with accessibility options and screen resolution settings, or I set up a Fresnel magnifier in front of the screen.
I suspected the book was going to be challenging, but I'd been thinking more of an *intellectual* challenge, not a technical one!

>20 MHThaung: The way to grasp the book was indeed strange, probably because U of Chicago Press does not usually do such promotions.
I understand that you never used Adobe Digital Edition, right? I have an account, to read the ebooks I buy or lend from my Italian digital library, and it downloaded and opened it without any problem. I think that maybe Abigail could help you, even if she was not involved in the agreements with U of Chicago.

>21 .mau.:. Thanks. I'm sure it'll be fine, and I should be used to academic conventions by now. I was just feeling a bit grumbly that I might need to create an account and install new software for this one purpose. And I certainly don't want to give the author a bad review because of how his book's distributed!

I received Back of the Yard by Meg Shelvis. Although I'm fairly certain it had been listed as print, the publisher only had PDF and ebooks available. I received those on July 15.
