>3 Carol420: I believe some of the feeling of 2021's speed is a consequence of the Year Time Forgot.

Now some of it, for me, is from fear of the upcoming school year, which starts next month. My homeschooled child will stay home, but we are affected by what what happens at schools in the area. In my view, none of the schools around here are ready to manage viral spread and likely won't be. I don't know how to prepare for the risks we'll face through my partner's work, which has loosened safety measures.

We're also trying to take care of home maintenance and medical visits before the school year officially starts. Getting outside help is a challenge. Resources are more scarce than what they look like online, and some of our calls aren't returned. Thank goodness for how-to videos and our eclectic past experiences. Still, I feel a time crunch.

>4 aspirit: I no longer have children in school but some of my friends are very concerned about their children and grandchildren returning to school. My grandchildren in Louisiana are homeschooled so their parents don't have that worry...and my grandchildren in Arizona are the four-legged variety that think they're people:) so no school there.

Yes, it is August, isn't it? It's been a very strange and varied year. My own "kids" are the furry kind, but having been back to the office *and* encountering visitors who were unmasked was a bit unnerving. I mean, when signs say, "Please wear your mask," wouldn't it be good manners to do what your hosts ask as a guest in their place of business???

Things are a little quieter this month - no festival or outside events for the time being. >4 aspirit: My heart goes out to you and to my niblings with their kids who have to return to school buildings. They're all over the country, too, but their moms are good and sensible and I'm sure are lecturing their kids about mask wearing. I mean, I am their aunt and helped raise the niblings to be smart, thoughtful women!

Hang in there, LT friends. We're gonna make it through.

>6 threadnsong: Thank you, belatedly.

The school year has started. We're doing well at home, but the public schools are not. A nearby school district shut down after about 150 students and staff members tested positive for COVID-19 within the first two weeks. Another nearby school district was visited by the governor to celebrate their refusal to mask, but their cases have skyrocketed; the majority of pandemic deaths in that county have occurred just in the past week. Other school districts in the area are suddenly implementing new safety measures as the wave of cases for all ages rises high.

Several of my husband's relatives and coworkers are sick. Some couldn't test for COVID-19 because of a kit shortage. One of his former coworkers died a few days ago.

I'm currently trying to convince the libraries in our region to close. The library staff should be allowed to work without having to continue dealing with the unmasked patrons coming in to proclaim they've tested positive *or* with unvaccinated coworkers coming back from vacations in other high-transmission areas. We also need safer library services, so patrons may return books on loan without having to go indoors with these dangers.

>7 JulieLill: >8 aspirit: I am absolutely horrible at Sudoku. I'm not a numbers person by any stretch of the imagination. Now, crossword puzzles I can do in a matter of minutes. I guess there has to be something in the world for everyone:)

>10 aspirit: I am...as my grandfather used to say "able to sit up and take nourishment". As kids we used to ask him several times a day how he was just to hear him say that with his Scottish brogue:) It didn't take much to entertain us as you can see. We're getting ready to go to Louisiana for our granddaughter's wedding. Her future husband was scheduled to go to Afghanistan for his company but that has been put on a permanent hold now...there is a God!! She's going to be taking some classes at LSU in the fall and he was due to be back in March of 2022. Don't know where they will end up now. My two friends that bring me books.... Conner and Luke, are going to visit their son the first week of September and we may go with them for one day. He's in Chicago right now but will be coming back to Michigan the first of the year. I'm glad to see you post aspirit. Hope things are good in your world.

>9 aspirit: At the library where I work everyone of the staff have to wear masks and all patrons need to wear masks regardless of vaccine status. We do provide masks if they forget to wear them.

I just don't get it. Deaths are up again especially in our area. We still don't have vaccines for children. Do you not care enough to protect yourself and your family. That's my rant for today!
