Apologies for the late post - 5 weeks of lockdown here so far and I’ve lost track of time.
Please nominate up to two books for our next group reads and second as many nominated books as you like. I’ll close nominations within five days.

We had months of lockdown last year and it does become quite surreal after a while. Just finished another two weeks yesterday - hopefully that will be the end of lockdowns for us. Although Australia has a very low vaccination rate, so who knows?
Anyway, I would like to nominate The Third Policeman by Flann O'Brien and What Maisie Knew by Henry James.

I nominate Trollope’s Castle Richmond if people are up for a big 19th-century novel. And Romain Gary’s Promise at Dawn. I have already read The Third Policeman several times but it deserves a group read!
4ELiz_M
I'd like to read Memento Mori and The Passion.

>4 ELiz_M: I second both of these. Both are available through the library who are starting inter branch transfers on Monday. You have no idea how exciting that is to me...

Nice choices already. I second Promise at Dawn and nominate Burmese Days by George Orwell once more.

I'll second Burmese Days and Castle Richmond.

I will second What Maisie Knew . I have this book and have been thinking about getting it down off the shelf.

As August is already upon us I will close the poll in the next five days.

A quick reminder to vote in the poll. We currently have an unhelpful six way tie for first place, so I will create a run-off poll in the next couple of days unless someone has a gold medal winning performance in the interim!

>10 puckers: I did see that it was a close race! Just need one more person to vote to break the tie!

We have a book for our August group read - Burmese Days by George Orwell. Thread to follow imminently.
For September we have a five way tie so I've set up a poll for these. Please vote once only, for one book. As usual I will refrain from voting until the close of the poll (in one weeks time) to resolve any tied winners.

Promise at Dawn received the most votes in the runoff poll and will be our September group read.

Rats! My library only has The Kites, or Promise At Dawn in Vietnamese!
It looks worth purchasing though so I will do that. Let's face it, I never really need an excuse to buy a new book!
