Ok, I can't stop talking BSG this morning. Who is your favorite character and why? What about least favorite?

It's afternoon here, fanny:-)

I can't just pick one favorite but I'd have to say it's either Adama, Roslyn, Tighe, Gaius, or Six. I think these are the most complex and intriguing characters. However, I have a second tier list also:-)

>2 avaland:, Heehee, not when you wake up at 2:30, its not. (My excuse is that I'm just coming off working night shifts....).

It is hard to pick favorites, isn't it.

I would say that my favorites are:

(1) Gaius (I think he's going to be a popular one) because he is so incredibly charismatic, despite being so completely flawed. I think he represents both the best and worst of humanity. He is capable of being so selfish and yet so self-sacrificing (even though there is always something in those moments of self-sacrifice where I don't trust that he really thinks he's going down).

(2) Six, because I just can't figure out what her game is. I think the actress has done such an amazing job of playing so many different variations on one character - all the Six personas are unique, but they are all believable as incarnations of one "person."

(3) I used to love Sharon/Boomer/Athena, for similar reasons, but I've been disappointed with how the show seems to have lost interest in her character. I hope they do more with her this season because her internal conflicts have been one of the more fascinating things to watch.

(4) Tigh - Michael Hogan is amazing. Enough said. :)

(5) And .... Starbuck. I love her, I hate her, I wish for more screen time, I get tired of seeing her. I used to like her character so much more, but then they started making her "Super Starbuck" and suddenly she was the best at everything, every man was in love with her, she had a special destiny, etc, etc. But still, a fascinating character.

{ETA: Augh, weird glitch, saved before I was done.}

My favs:

1) Baltar. It's all about how awesome Callis is. To take such a scumbag and make him believable and still likable is just amazing. And he's funny as hell.

2) Tigh. Again, it's about the amazing acting chops of Hogan. The scene where he kills Ellen is just a model of restraint, it makes me weep every time I've seen it.

3) Gaeta. Juliani is also bringing a lot of nuance to a character who is basically filling the "Data" role. He continually comes up high on the list of suspected cylons, and I believe it's because Juliani just make himself noticed no matter what is going on. He also knows how to bring the humour even in sticky situations.

4) Six. Tricia Helfer has done an amazing job. I have no trouble telling CapSix from Gina from Head!Six because she brings the nuance. I always get the Eights mixed up, but never the Sixes.

5) Leoben. Because he's batshit crazy. Ditto Cavil.

6) Roslin. Because she's also batshit crazy, but every time she does something morally suspect, I end up forgiving her. Plus she's so cute with EJO.

7) Anders. Because he's effing hot, and he's always in way over his head but lands on his feet. Now we know why.

My least favs:

1) Cally because in a show with so many strong female characters, she seems so mealy mouthed.

2) Pretty much no one else is boring. I even like Dee, who a lot of people don't.

My favourites include Adama and Roslin, Baltar, Tigh, Tyrol, Starbuck... heck, MOST of them are favourites. Special mention goes to Romo Lampkin, even if I do keep misremembering his name as Tony Lumpkin. He was fantastic.

Least fav - Tory (mainly because she's still a cipher) and Cally.

I can't pick. This is one of the best ensemble casts ever. My former favorite ensembles were "The West Wing" and "ST:DS9." BSG beats them, hands down. They just have the whole show cast so perfectly. Don't make me pick!!!

Speaking of DS9, ever notice how much Dr. Bashir and Dr. Baltar look alike? Hmmm....

Least favorite? Kat - so very very glad she is gone.

I'm with chamekke in #5 - most of them are favorites. I have particular soft spots for Boomer, Sharon, Chief, Helo (especially when he's interacting with Starbuck), Starbuck, and Caprica 6. I also have a completely irrational love for Hot Dog. Don't ask me why; I can't explain it.

Least favorites:
1) Cally - mealy-mouthed is exactly the right word for it, lg. I am not looking forward to her little spaz-fit if/when she realizes her baby is a Cybrid.

2) Tory, primarily because she's not Billy.

3) Kat annoyed the heck out of me, but I still cry like an idiot EVERY TIME I watch "The Passage".

Well, as I've previously mentioned, I have a huge crush on Kara Thrace....

I also love Helo and Chief. Helo because he can't NOT do the right thing, even though he constantly pisses everyone off because of it. And Chief just seems like he would be fun to go the the bar with. =)

My least favorite currently seems to be Lee - man, he is the whiniest viper pilot in history - but that changes on a fairly regular basis.

There were a few great episodes that featured Helo, it's too back he's more or less in the background now (same with Boomer).

>10 avaland:, Yup, yet another interesting character sacrificed to Starbuck's special destiny. Not that I'm bitter or anything. I actually rewatched the first episode of Season 4 last night and was surprised to find myself more interested in Starbuck than I was the first time I watched it. Maybe I am coming back around to her.

>11 fannyprice: I dunno. Seems she's lost some dimension the more air time she gets. . . (should be the opposite, shouldn't it?)

>12 avaland:, avaland, I agree 100% with that sentiment (actually with both of your sentiments). (But I still like her, for old times' sake...)

after this last episode, there's hope I could warm up to her again. The scenes with Adama were good. Still, I feel her character has flattened out around this special destiny thing (she might as well be a programmed Cylon).
