I am not an author on LT and only joined recently. I am the author of an article that was published in a book with multiple other articles. My article is attributed to an author on LT who is not me but has the same name. Do I have to become a LT author to remedy this?

Authors who share the same name end up on the same author page. The page can be split so that the books can be attributed to Author (1) and Author (2).
If you tell us the author name, and the title of the book, we can do that.

Author pages are not created by being LT authors, but by having their works entered on LibraryThing.
Information on the authors is entered by members.

It's the way that LibraryThing manages works with mutliple authors. You're not missing! Your name just needs to be confirmed.
LT currently lists only the main editor names. This is normal.
Your name is among the list of contributors and needs to be confirmed -- preferably by someone who has access to a list of all the contributors. (I would do it, but I don't have the book.)
To do that:
1. Go to the book, page down to the Other Authors section, and click on "Add/edit other authors (15 possible)". That opens the Edit other authors window.
2. For each name you want to confirm, click on the little pencil to the right of their entry. That window switches to the settings for that name.
3. Under Work?, click "all editions", then click the Save author button.
ah, never mind -- someone is doing it as I type.

I have split the author page, to reflect there being two authors. Thanks for letting us know about the problem.

Tip!
You can create a link to the work and author by using "touchstones". Just put single square brackets around the title, and double square brackets around the author name.

Thanks for your swift aid and tips everyone, for I am fairly new to LT! I claimed the new author page as recommended.
