When I was back in NZ recently I picked up the Spellbound CD as a memento of Split Enz. Although I am distanced from much of what is happening in NZ, I think they have had a farewell tour recently?
Does anyone know if a definitive book has or will be written about the band and its history?
It was part of my teenage years, so would be of interest to me over here in UK.

Well, I have in my library Stranger than Fiction: The Life and Times of Split Enz by Mike Chunn. The book's interesting, and as a former band member, Mike Chunn has the inside stories - but it's also messy, and too much of it is composed of regurgitated press cuttings. It's worth picking up a copy if you're interested in the Enz, but I think a definitive book about them remains to be written.

Thanks for that, I hadn't heard of that one, although I do remember the Chunns.
Yesterday I googled the topic and got a couple of potted histories which were quite interesting.
I will await the inevitable book which hopefully, when it eventually comes, will be well written.
I think there may also be a book to be written on the history of New Zealand popular music...?

There's Stranded in Paradise by John Dix, but it too is very spotty in its coverage. There is a clearly a need for better books about New Zealand music - who wants to take on the challenge of writing them?
