Looked into the Festival website for a good podcast to listen to, and noted that the date for this year has been listed.

September 27, 2008

Nothing else coming up so far, but figured that I'd post it.

See you there again this year! Same time and same place. I'm looking forward to it.

I think my BookCrossing group is going to be planning something BIG!

ag. 18, 2008, 9:30 pm

Just checked out the author list for this year. Let me know if there is a group of you meeting there. My husband and I go every year. I hope this is not the last year for it:(

There will be an informal Third Annual Joint BookCrossing/LibraryThing Meet-Up at the 2008 National Book Festival. Don't miss it!

Time: 2pm - 2:30pm (or later)

FYI: BookCrossers may want to meet at this place on the even hours to touch base with each other. We will have a Official Mobile Bookcrossing Zone travelling the festival. Free books! Look for it!!

Place: The Museum of Natural History. We will meet at the bottom of the steps on the right side facing the building.

Please wear some sort of identification that you represent LibraryThing or Bookcrossing so that you can be easily identified. There are tons of people at this festival!

Editat: ag. 19, 2008, 8:47 am

Please leave a message here on this thread if you are planning to attend. I'd like to have an idea who will be looking to meet up with me and others.

ag. 19, 2008, 12:50 pm

Am I correct that the meeting place will be on the right side, at the bottom of the steps, on the side of the Museum of Natural History that faces the National Mall?

If so, I'll try to be there.

ag. 19, 2008, 2:26 pm

I'm going to make an effort to get there this year.
Wonder what color the bags will be this year...

ag. 19, 2008, 4:25 pm

I plan to go too. Also, volunteering in Pavilion of the States.

ag. 19, 2008, 7:56 pm

ag. 28, 2008, 8:35 am

Great! Wear your hat so I can find you again.

Do you remember how many LibraryThingamabrarians we were able to gather last year? To me, they kind of got mixed up with the BookCrossers in the pictures so I had no idea who was who in the end. :( I remember you, selkins and gilroy, though.

I'll wear *a* hat, anyway. May not be the same one, since I have *much* weirder ones now. :D

I *think* there were around seven? But they got sort of mixed up with the book-crossers for me, too.

set. 2, 2008, 1:22 pm

I'm 90% sure I'll be there (although I haven't booked tickets yet!).

set. 9, 2008, 9:26 pm

Do you think there will be one next year? I am in high hopes the new first lady or the Library of Congres will continue this.

set. 9, 2008, 9:49 pm

I have no idea. It's such a wonderful festival. There are sponsors, such as Target and others. Perhaps they will help to perpetuate this tradition.

Editat: set. 9, 2008, 9:52 pm

By the way, I'm bringing some books to give away for BookCrossing. If people who are coming to the festival will let me know where to find their wishlists, I'll see if I can find any of those books. Feel free to post the link to each of your wishlists here.

P.S. If you have no wishlist yet, a good place to post it is on BookMooch.

Do we have any word about a rain date? I'm looking at the weather for the weekend, and even though they hold this in tents, I'm sure that it is not going to be pretty on the mall...

set. 26, 2008, 10:25 am

I'm fairly sure they hold it regardless of the weather.

Bring an umbrella and a raincoat? And be glad it'll be less crowded?

set. 26, 2008, 10:43 am

In case of rain, let's meet just inside the doors of the Natural History Museum. Turn to the right after you enter the building. We can't stand around and talk in the rain!! :(

set. 27, 2008, 12:34 am

I will be there. I'll try to make it to meet up.

We made it! Er...some of us didn't show up!!

Editat: set. 27, 2008, 8:58 pm

Left to right: SqueakyChu, melannen's sister (I knew I'd forget your screen name by the time I got home!), melannen, and gilroy.

We all had a fabulous time. We hope even more LTers will join us next year.

set. 27, 2008, 10:16 pm

Great pic SqueakyChu!

set. 27, 2008, 10:23 pm

Probably because I didn't take it! :)

set. 27, 2008, 11:50 pm

Ha! I love it!

set. 28, 2008, 12:02 am

That would be stellar_dust ! And yes, picture came out awesome.

set. 28, 2008, 3:55 am

I wish that I lived nearer!!

set. 28, 2008, 10:06 pm

I was at the festival but didn't make it over to the group. Actually the weather turned out pretty decent for the way it sounded originally. How many author signings did you all get. I stood in a huge line to get Alexander McCall Smith and only because he stayed longer than he was suppose to did I get his signature. It seemed like everything was arranged a bit differently this year.

set. 28, 2008, 11:19 pm

I didn't go for author sigs. Those lines were really long! Was it worth the wait?!

I really went to meet up with other BookCrossers and LibraryThingamabrarians. I did listen to author talks by Peter Robinson and Andrew Klavan before I left. I was kind of disappointed that there were quite a few repeat authors there this year. There was no one that I felt that I *had* to see this year as I'd seen Neil Gaiman two years ago. In past years, I had been really looking forward to seeing Jonathan Safran Foer, John Irving, Jodi Piccoult, Joyce Carol Oates, Neil Gaiman, and Khaled Hosseini. Listening to them speak had been a thrill.

Too bad you didn't stop by to say hello. I know you were very busy. Sorry to have missed you, investory.
